    Re: Lexington Boat Show

Guys, I know what you're talking about when you say it's the same old same old. I worked for Lexington Center for 8+ years. The show is about 90% the same every year. I agree with you and think there is room for improvement. I also think the show could reinvent itself from year to year and incorporate new booths, products, etc. Turning it into more of a fishing seminar show with lots of product would make us all happy!

Now for reality... The show sells booth space and they sell out every year. The big "show money" comes from the vendors, not from the folks paying to get in the door. That's the bottom line. This said, if you're the show promoter and you're filling booths, why change???

I think there is a need for a show for fishing products only with seminars covering a number of fishing techniques and booths for companies to show and deomonstrate their products. The small get-together that Elwood put together dow at Dale was a huge success. Fishermen just need an excuss this time of year to get together to fellowship, exchange ideas and see whats on the market for the new year.

Went today and it was better than a kick in the head. Overall nice to see a few new boats but the tackle was lacking..maybe 5 or 6 booths with tackle. Glad I went one time but would never go back. Off to a bigger show next year...1.5 hours is all It took to see it all and i mean it ALL.

I totally agree with you. Although I only go to hobnob with the same guys, the Lex Boat & RV Show can't hold a candle to the Louisville Boats Show in terms of "fishing-friendly" attractions. Last year when I went to the Louisville show, I got to attend a seminar given by Kevin Wirth. Also got autographs and got to ask him questions. His seminar was about different kinds of lines and when to use them. I also thought it was interesting that no matter what application he is fishing, Kevin always tightens his drag down on baitcasters as tight as he can (and never backs them off).

The Lex boat show would be alot better if they offered this kind of stuff -- instead of overpriced beer, overpriced food, and more RVs and pontoons that could make up a small navy batallion.

I rememebr a few years ago Stokleys Marine had Rick Clunn and KVD at the boat show. Haha I still didn't go! But they were there!
Only time I went to see anyone was also a few years ago and that was to meet Dave Stewart! I did and looked around at the stuff and then left....
