    Right to Bear Arms

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

    Thomas Jefferson

The way things are going under Obama, Pelosi and Reid, we need to keep our arms handy more than ever.

I agree! Eric Holder is as bad or worse he is named more often in my NRA Mags than the other fine American Folks (gag**cough) you mentioned.

I know that I have the right to bear arms, but I have the hardest time deciding on whether I want grizzly, brown, black, or polar...

Guys....I hope we never get to the point that we have to defend ourselves against the government.....If we get to that point then we may have lost our country.....I doubt we would be very successful in that endeavor....our 357's and assault rifles wouldn't be very affective against the armed forces arsenal....I doubt Mr. Jefferson ever envisioned a fighting force that could compare to our armed forces today...The only way our way of life can be preserved is to maintain control of our government through the political system.

Yeah I can't see it getting to that and I agree use the system vote out the lifetime dead beats and get this country back. I know it's vey complicated but starting with a REAL leader and a Congress that actually does whats right for us would be a blessing.
Man there are so many things wrong special interests, illegals, politicians fighting wars, sucking up to third world countries, giving money to countries that we don't have, healthcare, energy,...and so on and so on...

    Re: Right to Bear Arms

Our "arms" don't mean anything any more, though.

Back when that was written, the average citizen could bear arms that were at least mildly equivalent to what the government had.

Not any more. If the spirit of that amendment were still truly in place we'd all be able to legally have tanks, missiles and bombs.

Has anyone ever considered the possibility that, even though the President is Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, at some point the Armed Forces could side with the citizenry and take over a tyranical government.

True. I'm sure there are some who would not put up with that at least I would hope so.
I don't feel we have a bunch of brainwashed people serving in the Military that would follow a Commander In Chief who goes off the deep end. We are so independant as a country and as a people that all kinds of militias would pop up....IMO.

Thats taking that a bit far don't you think? The fact that I can have firearms in my house or on my person means alot. Look at the countries that don't allow that or had that right taken away. They miss it...the bafoons running their country don't but I would guess alot of the citizens do.

Besides tanks get terrible gas mileage and are hard to get parts for.

It probably is taking it a bit far, but the government's weaponry is just going to keep getting better and better and the weapons that we are allowed to have will stay the same (and sometimes get worse).

    Re: Right to Bear Arms

Being a former police officer I often laugh when the far left started talkin about passing a law to take away our firearms. I mean I wasn't gonna enforce a law like that, and no other officer I knew would either. And the same goes for when I was in the military. So if police and military aren't going to do it then who is. I mean the far left don't have the marbles to go to someone's house and get them. They ever try it and the **it will hit the fan. So they better have their bags packed and have a plane waiting on a runway.
So they are left with trying to take away one thing at a time and hope to get to their end result of no firearms over a long period of time.

A collection of comments to amuse the senses:

    a. If we lost the "right to bear arms", does that mean it would be illegal to wear short sleeved shirts and tank tops?

    b. Tanks, and bombs and missiles: Even if we could keep them, we'd be crazy to. The maintenance and upkeep of an Abrams M1A1 or A2 tank would bankrupt the average American in just a few months. They cost $4,300,000 a piece, and it takes 505 gallons of fuel to fill them, that only carries them about 265 Miles pert ank full. They weigh 60.54 tons, so if it breaksdown, don't expect your auto club to tow it in for you. And if you had a bomb, what would you drop it from, a Cessna?

    c. I think Big gills is right......nobody is going to take our guns away. As long as we don't break laws and get them taken from us as as result.
