    Re: Jet Drive ???

That is my next thing to buy a 4stroke yamaha. So I can use it all year long on the CR so I do not have to use my 18ft crestliner deepv in the spring then use my 14ft jon with a 25 in the summer I all the time hit the motor on the bottom so a jet is the way to go. But so cost so much too much Iam looking for a nice used one.

Jets are awesome...and they come with an awesome price. Most people that own one very rarely let them go

If I must I will buy a new one. If I do Iam getting a 60 4stroke yahama to put on a 16ft jon boat the weight is crazy a 60 is 268pounds alot more than a prop motor but I want one bad.

I think a lot of the weight is due to the motor being a 4 stroke engine. I have a 4 stroke jet and do not think the jet part adds all that much to the weight. And yes you can go in pretty shallow water when you are on plane, if the boat will float it will go.

Just remember that you loose 30 - 35% of the HP when you convert to a jet.
I have a 90 HP Yamaha that is rated as a 65 HP . They are a great motor for the River. But there are some drawbacks or trade offs. They are not easy to steer . There is a learning curve to driving them. They will slide out in a curve and come around on you if you turn too sharp! They have a nickname " Jet Sled " For a couple of reasons. The way they slide. And the way you can slide them over logs or narrow gravel bars. They are Very hard to navigate at slow speeds.

And if you want to play and have the nerve . You can get going wide open and cut the wheel hard. And the back end will slide around and come up in the air. Throwing as much water on you as a log ride. The technician giving my Wife and I a test ride / Drive before we purchased the boat showed us that !
I have done it a few times, Made my son's eyes look like the size of a cue ball!
the first time I pulled it on him. He did not know what was going to happen. I just yelled HOLD ON ! LMAOROTF

They will **** up debris and be disabled until the Grate is cleared. In the fall when there are a lot of leaves in the water. It will pick them up.

They will **** an anchor rope up like you never seen. And you will need some tools to get the jam clear. Something other than a pair of pliers! DO NOT ASK me how I know this ! LOL

There is a bearing in the lower jet unit that has to be greased every time you take it out! Or very regular anyway !

And if possible you might want to consider a tunnel hull boat to put it on. This puts the bottom of the motor higher than the bottom of the Main Hull!
Did I say Slide over Logs?

But I swear that when I am on plane. I can cross a flat gravel bar with water that might be a little over ankle deep ! The gravel looks like a carpet I am crossing. There is a definite freak out factor the first few times you see this !

I LOVE My Jet Boat !

I would recommend that anyone should drive one before buying one. If you are a dedicated river rat. They are the cadillac ! But they are very different from a prop! (See my other post below)

I have a G3 1756 CCT DLX ( center concole tunnel deluxe) on order. My friend that we fish the river together all the time had a jet and yes they are fun to drive I would love to buy a 115 4stroke yahama jet but 415pounds is too much. So I will look at a 90. What do you all think thanks. If you see me on the river say hi.

    I have a G3 1860 CCJDLX with a 90/65 that does great with 2-3 people in it.
If I have a heavy person in the rear, It takes a little longer to get up on plane.

When I first got it. I thought this thing runs too fast for the river. Now after getting used to it. I would like to have MORE POWER ! If it were not for the extra weight.

You will be Very HAPPY with that motor on a 1756 !!!

    What color did you order???

The color is tan or off white I did that so it would not be as hot as a dark color. I hope that I like it too. I should have it in a week or two by then I hope the river is lower I hope.

I have a 20' Sea Ark bay boat with a 115 /80 horse Yamaha with jet drive and I am very pleased with the rig. I fish Ky Lake,Dale,Cumberland lake and river. I did lose a lower unit on my old bass boat at Ky lake one time, Hit a peace of barge rope at 60 mph, now I dont worry about lower units. It is hard to drive a straight line at slow speed to load, and the fuel mileage is not as good, and noise is louder, but I bought this rig on E Bay and got a bargan and I'm not in a hurry any more. Sounds like a nice boat ! Yours must be a 2 Stroke huh ? I think they are quite a bit louder than the 4 strokes !

How shallow have you had her !
