I have been to several as a member of the media, but didn't make it last year and won't be there this year. I will be following it though. Speaking of the Classic, here is a photo from the first one in New Orleans, the one that Davey Hite won. I was in the boat with Alton Jones on the final day.

Great pic! Couldn't stop from laughing at his hat and tournament jersey! I mean that in the most respectful way possible. My how times have changed......
Very cool. How did he do that tournament? I went to the one in Central Florida that (Clausen?) won. I liked the boat and tackle show alot! Plus the fishing was off the charts good for us before the classic. I stayed off the water while they were fishing.
I don't remember exactly where he finished that year, but I am thinking it was top ten. Ido remember we made a 2 and 1/2 hour boat run at 70 mph to get where he was fishing and I got wind burned and saw alligators and porpoises on the same ride. He caught a limit that day.
I would love to go sometime. You guys wouldn't believe the video some friends of mine have from 87 on the Ohio river. I guess having a nice video camera back then was kind of rare or something. They were walking around filming after the weigh in when a official type guy comes up and asks them if they are press. They of course say "Yes" and the guy tells them to hurry up and get to the press room before the interviews start. He gives them some sort of pass and tells them to go in this room. All of this is recorded. They get into the room and do these hilarious interviews with Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin (was very rude to them in their interview I think he knew something was up LOL), Gary Klein, and a few others. They tried as good as they could to keep the interviews serious but they were laughing throughout. This video is priceless.
That is cool! Like to see that on You tube! We tried that at one of the first UK games this year. They didn't fall for it....matter of fact they wouldn't let us in with the lens since it was over 70mm? So we had to go back to the car and switch the lens.I would love to go sometime. Met Roland once at the Mega Bucks on the Harris Chain. He is consistant cause he was a jerk then as well...
I would really enjoy going to a classic...especially the tackle show. It would be kinda cool to even drive (in my boat) around the lake while the tourney is going on and see where they're fishing! I'm not one who would sit and watch a guy fish for hours, but would like to know "where" different guys fish on certain lakes...especially a lake that I fish a lot!!
I've never met Roland Martin...or any other pro angler for that matter...but please keep in mind that these guys come in contact with hundreds, if not thousands, of people on any given weekend. Some guys are really good at "being nice" and some aren't...just like us "little guys".
I set the DVR this morning for all the coverage on ESPN2.
I've never been to a Classic but would enjoy the experience some day.
This talk about the "Classic" and Roland Martin reminds me of the time on the Ohio river he try'ed to untie my Skeeter at the gas dock while I was inside paying my bill.
The funny part was that my now wife was sitting in the boat, I thought she was going to beat him good with a Ugly Stick.
I heard later that he left his wallet on the dock and lost his biggest bass when he hit a barge wake and the lid on the livewell flew open on the way to the weigh in.
Went to Lake Okeechobee years ago and we got a guide and he hated Roland with a passion. The guide went on a rant that lasted for days. He had no respect for Roland as a fisherman but mostly as a person. Can't remember all the stuff he had to say, but it was a lot. Was it all true? I don't know. But it sure was entertaining listening to him. Oh boy did he have some hate built up.
