Yes a Prop guard should be used in the CR in the summer when the water is low. You will hit the bottom and you do not want to get into water its cold.

Should a prop guard be used on the Cumberland River? I've been hearing both sides on this question.

Also what type would be best?
Sorry to not have experience on this one Farmer, but I'm throwing it back to the top in hopes that you get an answer. I have the same question myself. I would imaging the ones that look similar to a skid plate on the bottom of your truck would be the most durable. The type that is more like a ring around the prop doesn't look like it would hold up very well. This is only an opinion.
There is someone on this board that has spoken more than once or twice on this very subject (Lowerider ?????) but didn't speak of the specific type. Hopeful that you get your answer.
The Lowe run's a MACS river runner, and yes you do need one.
Iam sorry but yes the Mac's River Runner is the best goin they has them as cabelas they are 104.99 to 134.99 you have to choose the right size for the motor that you have and they are very easy to put on.
