I have one word to say about Walmart batteries . . . OPTIMA! I don't take chances on the water with infearier equipment if I can afford not to.
I have owned several sets of their batteries. I ended up returning a few the first couple years I used them and it might have been partly my fault then because I didnt take care of them like I should, I didnt know any better. Now I baby my batteries and I get about a year out of them. Keep in mind that I use a jon boat with trolling motor as my only power and they get ran down several times a week. I think thats about all you can expect out of a $100 battery. I did get a dud back in January but they tested it and said it was bad and replaced it. I was sure their "tester machine" was rigged to say all batteries were "good" but I was wrong. The battery I use is the maxx and it cost about $100. It says 18 Month free replacement, but I have never had a battery that lasted that long the way I use them, I dont expect one too. A hundred bucks every year or so is a small expense compared to spending that every time somebody gasses up the bass boat.
Overall, Im happy with them.
i like the everstarts .. pretty good... but i have this motorcraft max car battery that is 6 years old and has out lasted two interstate marines and 1 everstart so far... and it will hold a good 10 to 12 hr charge... it amazes me ... i think i got the pick of the litter right here
Trolling Motor Batteries:
Carquest Gold Deep Cycle Marine, even when I was fishing year around including 12-14 hour night trips or trolling all day for Stripers in my high sided Deep V boat that catches every single breath of wind the first set lasted right at 5 1/2 years and even then never died. I lost some power and thought it was better to replace before ruining a trip. A bit pricey at $80 per but well worth it. There was even one fine fall evening on Cumberland in 2006 that I put in at 6pm one night and took out at 7pm the following night - 25 straight hours of Smallmouth and Striper fishing and still had some power at the end.
