I've been invited to sarasota florida largemouth fishing next month by a business associate. I don't know any of the details yet but the question i have is i am going to have to take a couple rods, and i am flying down so i was hoping for some suggestions about getting my rods there. Should i buy a carrying case which i will probably never use again or should i mail them down and back? I was just wanting some suggestions on what you guys thought.
Thanks

UPS the rods to your hotel or business. Take the reels with you as carry-on
Make sure you pack it nice and good if you're going to UPS it. I used to work at UPS, a long, slender box becomes sort of a javelin for UPS truck loader. They love to launch it from the back of the trailer to the front. If your stuff get damaged, they will come up with any and every excuse to blame it on "inadequate packaging".
Now I couldn't just read and not reply. I read that you said you USED to work there....Probably got fired for improper package handling. I am a FT supervisor there and we ABSOLUTELY don't turn a blind eye to bad package handling. UPS is a great company to ship with and knowing the GSR (guarenteed Service return) rate we are at, with the economy, we can't allow people to damage other peoples packages. Just defending the company and effort I put in everyday idbefishing, not attacking you, just defending big brown. I see people shipping everything from guitars, to transplant organs because they know UPS cares.Make sure you pack it nice and good if you're going to UPS it. You'd be much better off sending them UPS. Flew to Savannah a few years ago and took a couple rods in a nice tube. Waited 2 hours after landing for the airline to find my rods. Somewhat of a hassle.
I have a couple of friends that fly here every summer for the Labor Day weekend (southwest to Nashville from Denver). They bought a length of PVC pipe, put stoppers on the end (one side permanently glued the other end removable) and then bought a clasp and a good lock. Pretty indestructible and cheap to make.
YO BOURBON BUDDY! Before ya spend money. Call me at 2707357814. I have a rod tube for carrying rods on board a plane, or you can ship them in it. I'll lend it to you free so long as you are willing to pick it up and return to me. If close enough, I'll meet ya half way, so long as you buy the beers and the burbon.....deal?I've been invited to sarasota florida largemouth fishing next month by a business associate. he's serious. I borrowed it from him once!
Thank you for the offer, I really do apprecitate it. Although after I posted my original thread I realized I was just allowed a carry on and one bag with the cheap airfare I got ( $78 ) round trip, so I am gonna just ship em, and turns out my dad has a shipping case I can borrow and he is right up the street. I do wonder If you checked a rod case full of Gloomis rods would the airline replace them if they were lost?YO BOURBON BUDDY! Before ya spend money. Call me at 2707357814.
