Absolutely a ton of options here. If you are not fishing the trap in vegitation, I typically use a crankbait rod. If around vegitation, I use a fast action flex and braid typically because I want the bait to pop out of the grass versus slowly load into the grass.

I'm fishing my 1/4 to 5/8oz lipless cranks on a loomis crankbait rod out of the bronzeback series. This is a 6'9 rod called the 814. Very similar to the CBR845.

If I go 5/8 to 1oz trap, I go to a CBR847 or a Crucial 7MH crankbait rod.

I have fished traps on a MH Bass pro crankin stick but did not stay there.

He is right, the Powell 754 CB Glass is absolute money-perfect flex for throwing the trap or a swim jig for that matter.

Take a look at Lamiglas Excel Series Rods. For traps i would go with 704C which is a med action with a fast tip, good back bone fast tip rod.

The Excel Series rods are made in USA and have a lifetime warranty. Sell for around $100.

Saw them at Watson's Marine in Elizabethton, Tn. Very nice.

BPS IM-6 MH Crankin Sticks - can't beat em. They'll be on sale starting 2/26/10 in the store for around $25. Like the ad says, don't let the price fool ya. Lews $250 ^. Been using IM-6 rods from BPS for years w/o issue. Looks like I'm not alone.

Personally i like to launch my traps a pretty good piece so i normally throw my traps on a 7'6" M action rod, this helps for distance as well as helps with keeping fish hooked up because fish usually can come unhooked on a trap pretty easily. As far as brand I use Airrus 457Comatrix, this isn't an especially pricey rod but it really does perform like one

Is this for real? Threw traps for years with a "wonder rod", then up graded to a fenwick glass, and then to lightning rod, and guess what, the fish still hit on the lightning rod. traps were here before graphite, graphite composites, and all these other " designer rods"Do you think they would work better for me, if I got a real van dam jacket and decoder ring? Fish are still fish, have been for centuries, the only thing that changes is fishermen.

I'm sorry about my last post. Was smiling at the folly of a rod for special baits, after [posting went back to putting new line on my trolling combo with the line counter, and the new diving device, that will go on a special planer board, that I might use 5or seven times this year. Guess my opinion of foolishness, sort of pales when I look in the mirror. I remember once when both of my deceased wives used to tell me that a glazed look came into my eyes when I started to describen the need for another fishing rodThe lastone said"you only have two hands", then I started explaining the need for 4 rod holders.
