They're pretty much the same price everywhere, but if you want to save on tax and shipping buy at Tackle Warehouse. If you buy from BPS you have to pay 7.25% In. tax

An external is required if you have a top. If you have an open Bass boat, an internal makes more sense as there is less to mount/wire/hookup.

Go to BBC.com & go to the Humminbird gps froum & they will answer any ??? you may have. They know there stuff & the is some great SI info & pictures. There are also sponsors that will give you a pretty good deal on the unit your looking at purchasing & any problems they'll take care of you.

Not sure about Hummingbird units, but Lowrance units I am familiar with, the external antenna works better, stays connected better, more stable.

    Re: Internal or external GPS

i have one of each and they both work good my 1197si is external and it works great, now the 787ci is internal thats in the dash and it takes a few seconds longer for the gps to kick on for it to get a reading but it still works great. but i think its becouse its in dash if it was exposed it would proubly pick up faster but it still dont take that long for it to pick up.

    Re: Internal or external GPS

I will point out one problemwith GPS. If the receiver goes out on an external you can just buy a new antenna. If you have one go out in an internal i would guess that you would have to send it in for repair. Just throwing that out there because i recently had an antenna quit working on my lowrance.
