    Thinking of taking some classes

I am seriously considering going back to school to take courses on Occupational Therapy. Probably go for a two year if I do it and work as a assistant at first and work my way up. It looks very bad for my industry and I need to start thinking about solid ground to get back on. Wow, I've been at the same job for right at 29 years, make great money and have basically been my own boss for the last 17 years or so. Very sad but that's life I suppose, and this couldn't have hit me at a more emotionally time with what I'm going through with my mother.

Sorry I got off task a bit. I like helping people and I think this would be a rewarding and safe job for the future even with the Nimrods we now have in office.

This Hope and Change is bankrupting everybody, the construction industry is below a snakes belly right now.

Just remembering how to study is a real chore,I did it for a while and it is a different world out there for sure. What ever you dicide put 110% into it and everything will work out. Sounds like you and me need to get together and drink about it. Chuck

I can see some beer being drank over this one for sure. And yes Don if I was to go this direction and Chuck needed me to work some kinks out of his neck sure I would, he's my Pal. If one them boys from the Hill comes down I'll throw his ass in the river.

Yea the studying part is what scares me and intimidates me the worst. I'm not stupid but I've been out of school for a very long time, kinda scary. The medical profession in some capacity is the way to go boys they are begging for help and the benny packages are all that in most cases.

I haven't heard about your mother but want you to know that she, and you, will be in my prayers.

Go for it Mark. I admire a man who has the good sense to look ahead and prepare for the future. You will be back in the routine of studying within a month and burning through the books like a rocket.

I think you made a good career choice that will be a great job. By the way, will your chores include women needing therapy? That could make some 'bright spots' in your day. lol

Re: Thinking of taking some classes

As noted by others, the getting in the habit of studying again is the difficult part. My mother went back to school after all of us were in high school and did real well. No doubt that you can do the same. One thing that you have going for you is life experience. A high percentage of college work is determination and persistance. If it is something that you want, you can do it.

    BINGO.

It actually took me a little longer to get my college degree, mainly because I had already started working full time and was trying to juggle both. I was getting good "real world" experience with a 40+ hour a week job and trying to go to school full time too...it was a CHORE. It was a few years in the trenches, but I can honestly say that I could add a lot more to discussions in classes because I was already out in the real world working...seeing things first hand. With your experience in life Mark, and a desire to learn...you would nail it buddy. Do it! Real life already teaches most of us to persevere and to juggle, which will get you through about 75% of college work!

My wife is soon to be 36, and she's in nursing school right now...working as a bookkeeper on the side for three different employers, taking care of her sick mother, and putting up with me...she should graduate in May and become an RN. She has worked her butt off and I admire the hell out of her for it. She is getting ready to reap the rewards.

Re: Thinking of taking some classes

Thanks for all the support guys, I'm all over the place right now. This site and it's members are first rate without any doubt.

I've been searching the web and am very intrigued by this prospect. A two year associate degree can get you on as a OT assistant and they make decent money with job security and good benny packages. My wife is on board, but we are just scared, me especially. An old dog like me has been doing the same thing for alot of years and change is somewhat frightening I must admit.

Again thanks for the kindness, alot of good friends on this fine website.

Go for it Mark...I got my education while working three jobs and going to school full time...I was a high school (kick out rather than drop out...lol). Got my GED and then got my college degree. Did this all when I was in my 30's and had a family to take care of all at the same time...had commitments in the military at same time...if you want it bad enough you can do it. If I said it was easy, I would be lying, but typically nothing worth having comes easy.
