    Re: Kentucky Lake channel markers

I would encourage you to take the Ky Safe Boaters Course. You can learn the navigation rules there along with a lot of other information that can keep you safer on the water. The course can be taken online and if you wish you can take the final exam for a fee and get certified. Here is the link:

Maybe you should reconsider your college that you will go to? Murray State is only about 20 minutes or so from Kentucky Lake. Sounds like a good reason to choose a college to me!

Put any thought into a major yet? Decent fishing in and around BG if you have a boat. Creek wading or floating for good smallmouth is a posibility too.

Be darned careful on Barkley. You can seriously go from being in a fifty foot channel to a foot of water in little more than one boat length. It is no place to go running wide open even if the water is up, especially if the water is up. Huge blowdowns come floating down the lake too. Barge wakes. No place to be lacksadaisical.

KY is, to a lesser extent, the same way, especially at winter pool.

    Good luck on the hill.

Man, senior year of high school for me was a breeze! I fished nearly every day! Ha ha ha! Consider yourself lucky!
Funny how that came up. I'll actually be headed down there this weekend. U of L is sending three teams down, should be a blast if the weather cooperates. If anyone from the area wants to swing by, be at Kenlake Marina Saturday
and Sunday. Come check out the intense rivalry in college bass!

Jordan, you can always remeber which side of the bouys to be on by "red on the right coming inland" and since KY flows north your red bouys will always be on the right heading south on the lake and your green on the left. If you get out there enough you can familiarize yourself with it and remember where they are, but a GPS really really helps with seeing your bouys as well as with getting on some of KY's sweet ledge fish...!

If that's your major, then you'd be crazy not to go to Murray. I went to Murray for a few years for my basics and then had to transfer to UofL to finish since Murray doesn't offer a civil engineering degree. The town, the campus, and everything else is very easy going and it's heaven on earth for an outdoorsman. With the twin lakes for fishing and LBL for hunting you just can't go wrong. During duck season I'd hunt on Barkley and then be back in time for class...most times just went straight to class in camo and all.

Plus, the numbers are in your favor on women.....geez oh pete are there plenty of women there! I'd also recommend joining the AGR fraternity, not just for the women and parties, but for the library of old tests in about any ag. major, which comes in very handy!
