    Kentucky Lake channel markers

I have not been to kentucky lake and i am wanting to go down there some this year. I am wondering wheather to stay on the right side of the green buoys or the left. i have been to barkley but the water was up i didnt have to worry bout them. I also noticed some red buoys. Wat do those stand for???
    Thanks, Jordan

Seriously? I think you need a map.

    Just remember the three Rs.

    Red, Right, Returning

Red is on the right returning from sea (or upstream/away from the ocean)

just stay in between, the green and red. and you will be in the river channel. it don't matter what direction you are going, the river channel is always in between the red and green buoys. ps. and if you get out from between the buoys, you had better slow down to an idle. or destroy your boat prop.

oh okay - saw that WKU banner and figured you might be doing the college invitational hosted by Murray this weekend on KY Lake.

Man, senior year of high school for me was a breeze! I fished nearly every day! Ha ha ha! Consider yourself lucky!

    Re: Kentucky Lake channel markers

Like waterdog said, let me stress the importance of staying between them. There is some pretty treacherous stuff beyond the channel markers, especially on the Barkley side.

The best advice I can give you is to STAY IN BETWEEN THEM. If you're going to go into a creek with the markers, idle to your spot once you enter the creek.

Those markers are there for a reason. If you get to mess around a little, go out and scout them. There are places (I know of at least one on Barkley -- near the prison) where the channel cuts across the lake and if you're not paying attention you'll find yourself in a stump field -- or even worse.

Better yet, if you can look at your GPS while you're running, just stay in the channel and you'll be fine.

Go to your local Wal-mart and get a KY GAme and Fish Boating Guide.
You know the free ones in the sporting goods department that show you creel and size limits etc.. Look in the back and it gives you some basic instructions on how to read buoys and flags and how to pass other boats etc.. Be careful
