I had cataract surgery last August and, the next day, I went back to the doctor and he removed the bandage. You have to wear a clear shield over your eye at night for about a week to 10 days to prevent you from rubbing your eye in your sleep and displacing the lens implant. You use antibiotic and steroid eye drops on a schedule beginning with 4 times a day and then less and less until once a day, then stop. You also have to wear sunglasses when outside or driving the car. After the day of surgery there is little to no "down time" unless your job includes lifting and bending which is prohibited until the lens settles into place which only takes a short time. You can sleep flat on your back or in a recliner for a couple of weeks but no side sleeping until your eye heals. I was awake during the surgery and did not feel any pain because they used numbing eye drops and gave me a small amount of valium to calm my nerves. There was no pain after the surgery and I went fishing a week later. This all sounds a lot worse than it really is; I drove myself to the Opthamologist the day after surgery, went shopping after I left his office, and did normal things except lifting and bending over.
You will not believe how clear your vision will be and how you will be able to see true (vivid) colors and shapes that you had forgotten were there. My lens implant corrected my vision to 20/20 and I don't have to wear glasses anymore while driving.
