Good outboard mechanic north of nashville

Hey guys, i need my carbs cleaned and I am looking for a good reputable marine mechanic on the north side of nashville. I stopped in at CandO 2 today and they were very nice, said there shop rates were 80 and hour. Has anybody had any experience with c and o? I just dont want to get taken to the cleaners. any info would be greatly appreciated

Daryl Birge. Birge Marine south end of Barren River Lake.

Have you tried running some Seafoam or carb cleaner through them? Depending on how serious they are gummed or fouled you might could do it yourself.

I have some seafoam in the gas, but I am looking for any tips I can do to maybe clean it without paying 300 for a mechanic to do it. With the carb cleaner, should i spray it directly in the carbs and let it sit for awhile. If yoiu have any suggestions please send them my way.

What makes you think it is a problem with the carbs?

As for cleaning them I would, first; make darn sure I had fresh gas, second; splash some seafoam or starbrite in with the gas, and third; use a trigger spray bottle to shoot some seafoam into the carb while i had the motor running.

Doing all this is no gauruntee that you don't have some trash clogging a jet or something. Could be the bowl float could be lots of things going on in there.

Also what kind of motor? Size, year, make, etc.?

Smashdn, Thanks for your reply. It is a 1992 60hp evinrude. It will start fine on muffs and idle fine as well. When i get it tothe lake it is difficult to start and has a hard time idling until it gets warmed up. Then when i try to put the throttle down it bogs down and dies and then is a bear to restart again. I had this problem one other time and it thought it might be a loose plug wire, took the plug wires off and made sure they were seated good and I was good to go. Not the case this time. Here is what i have done so far. Comrpession is good on all three cylinders. Bought an inline spark tester and spark is good. REplaced fuel lines and new inline fuel filter. Fresh gas that is treated with seafom. I suspect there is a leak in the primer bulb because last weekend when i was pumping it i saw a few small airbubbles around the connection of the hose and the bulb. I am going to replace this. Talkd to a mechanic yesterday and he said this is a classic sign of a dirty carb, he said before i tear into it to take some seafom deep creep and spray it inthe throat of the carbs, and let it sit for a few days. He also said i need to decarb the motor and this could be causing my loss of power. Any ideas on anything else that could be causing this problem?

I had the plastic bowl float get a crack in it on an 88 model mercury I have. It got full of fuel and that boogered up the mix.
