Talking Good Day to Cook up some Squirrel

What else to do...LC to muddy to fish...don't want to drive to DH..not a couch potato, then:

Remembered I had a few squirrels in the freeze....Got them last fall...first time I had chased those bushy tails since I was a teenager. Had a great time being in the woods, just sitting and listing to them cutting acorns..then the SNEAK to get within range. My old eyes and big feet missed more than I got, but still a great time.

So, a little dusting with seasoned flour, seared in the skillet, then into the oven for a couple of hours. Think I'll make some biscuits and gravy to go with them....Good day to cook up some squirrel...brings back a lot of great memories from my childhood in rural Kentucky.

I killed a couple here last fall. Was the first time I had been Squirrel hunting in 20 years ! And you are right ! It is still great ! I kept the tails to tie flies with ! Was gonna cook mine up. But a old friend (82 yrs old ) was talking of fried Squirrel. And His eyes glazed over with delight at the thought of eating some again ! So I gave them to him. Cleaned and ready to cook !

Hopefully I have a few more seasons left in me !

Going to go out this afternoon and try to get a couple, it is the last day of the season, might as well give them a try. Nothing makes squirrels taste good like killing a couple with a longbow and flu flu arrows LOL.

Re: Good Day to Cook up some Squirrel

Went out once this year with a buddy who was home from Iraq on R&R. Saw nothing at all. As you'd expect, I saw squirrels every time I deer hunted the same area.

As a kid, I did what all kids do and shot squirrels as often as possible. My Dad was squeamish about eating wild game, so we ate gallons of squirrel stew, never referring to it as anything but "brunswick stew." Dad loved it and got seconds every time. Thanks for the walk through memory forest!
