Everyone that is capable of safely and legally handling a firearm should take the class, get the permit and carry a weapon concealed. Maybe not carry ALL the time but often enough to better the odds.

If enough do I believe the crime rate would fall.
Well you know...I have a story for that as well. This happended in Hopkisville Ky. to a Navy Seal...decorated during early Nam days (1967, 68, 69 volunteered for two more tours) for valor during heavy enemy fire while on a patrol / mission...Also a POW for just a few months, before a daring ascape...helped by Air Force bombing, just by chance. So you would say...this guy is an American Hero.
So years later...he is at a bar with his girl friend...for some reason he uses the term "retarted"...this catches the ear of a biker...he is the leader...and there is about 5 of these bikers guys. This leader...took an issue with this word...(comes to find out this biker leader has a brother...in the bar, that is retarted)!!! so a small scuffle broke out between the biker leader...and the retired Navy Seal fella in the bar, it was broke up by a few bouncers and the bartender, This navy seal fella is a small dude...but very stout, and very strong in the arms; I should know...he saved my life on Barkley Lake; I fell in the lake late at night while checking my limb lines, I hit my head, I was out cold, but that is another story)...So it looked like all was Ok at the bar...everyone settled down...they allowed them all to stay..all seemed OK. But at closing time...the navy dude (I'll call him that for now)...was walking to his car, with his girl friend...when the bikers jumped him. He was right at the door of his car...his girl friend was allready in the passenger seat. They all had big knifes...and they were waking away on him...stabbing him many times...one cut was over 12 inches long...and needed staples to heal. He was stabbed well over 10 times...he strugled just enough to get his knife out from under his seat. One of the bikes pulles out a 22 pistal..and shoot at him at close range...but the Navy dude is able to slice his throat anyway...bloody mess all around. the other bikers try to help their partner, but they to come under a ruthless (one witness said in court "a crazy attack") attact from the Navy dude...he is very good with his knife work. But he is fighting 4 drunk big biker guys; seeing that he is in trouble...still being hit and stabbed..strugles on the ground...and just so happens...is able to grab the 22 pistal on the ground, and uses it on the rest; they take off running, those that were able to, one died becouse of the bullits..some were hit and knifed. But one of the biker guys doesn't run (his brothe is one that got his throat slashed right off the bat)...he still wants some in a big way. But the Navy dude...out of bullits...and wanting to leave the situation...before more biker guys show up...is able to get in the car, tries to shut the door...but the biker puts his foot in the door, and hand...but gets them closed on...and the navy dude drives maybe two miles...before he opens the door, to let the other fall to the road dead. So he kills 3 out of 5...one with a knife..one with a gun..and one with the car...he getts 10 years in prison for 3rd degee manslaughter times 2, for the one he dragged, and the one he hit with the bullits from the 22 (the witneses said that one was shot in the back while trying to run away???)....he served all ten years.

I think youve seen conair too many times!

Seriously, if this did happen, please send me some resources on it and Id gladly eat it. However, if this happened today, there is no chance in hell you would get prosecuted. OUTSIDE of a bar, attacked by 5 men, badly wounded. Its CLEARLY self defense (if what you said happened exactly like you said) and wouldnt even get passed the grand jury today.

I thought the same thing about Con Air. Good thing is that in the end he got to see his wifey.

I don't doubt some injustices get done and that will never end.

I have seen Con Air several times and yes I will watch it when it is on. I just loved it. Nicolas Cage is easy on the eyes too. Clint's Dirty Harry movies are great and his "Bloodwork" is good too. You gotta see it. I watch Lethal Weapons over and over and Die Hards also. You just gotta love the crime action ones They are my favs plus The Untouchables. Good stuff.

    Re: Shoot'em

I am 100% positive. The Castle Doctorine is relatively new and may not have been in place when these cases were brought to court. We went over it briefly in our CCDW class. The castle doctorine actually applies to all building on your property, even barns and outbuildings. Deadly force may be used in any of these situations to stop a felony in progress in the state of KY. Would I shoot some one with my DVD player in their hand? Hell no, even if legally I could! If he dropped it and even looked like he was reaching for his waist band....with out even hesitating. The first step is ALWAYS to properly ID a potential threat before bullets start flying, that is why a nice torch should always be part of your home defense set up.

In a situation such as a major natural disaster, honestly it would probably be shoot first and ask questions later. However, the chances of any us being in that situation are so small compared to the chances of a home invasion.
