Thanks JS345. Was it thawed as far as you could see? Wonder if it is clear down to the ramp. Surely it will be after today.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy!!!! Wait, wasn't that a song in the 70's?

Yes...it was a feel good song, writin by John Denver...and recorded. I remember the song well...in 1974, it went No. 1. I can remember John Denver saying that he wrote it in Minn., after the snow melted; but he said he was still to cold to go fishing! ...Thought that made a connection there. He said quote; "sometimes...the sun itself can just make you feel good". It also was a great song for the times...people trying to deal with the end of Nam; so the song took on new meaning...for all of us.
I also remember the movie; "Sunshine", that the song was a hit in. It was about a women...a young mom...falling in love again, but is dying of cancer. She refused to have her leg removed...thus ended her life.
I will be at Guist Creek just to get out a run the boat, see how she has recovered from the winter; ...what all I might need to work on...Im 4 in a row going there with atleast one bass over 4 pounds! I might be pushing it a bit...but going for 5 Sat. I told my Aunt, that lives on the lake...make sure she has the batteries charged for her camera. ha ha ha...funny. Hey...confidence is the best lure in your box! That is a quote from Big Dog.
My hat's off to you demodan. I have struggled on Guist. Now, we've had occasional success - a buddy got a 6lber three years ago, I got a four last year. Usually, we fish 4-5 hours and catch nothing. I'm about ready to wash my hands of that lake. I can't imagine what we are doing wrong. I wish someone guided on the lake just to teach it to me, like Dave Stewart does on KY Lake.
There is know doubt that the lake gets pounded on...even more now, that 5 years ago. It's like the bass there...if I may use the comparison..are like the "white tailed deer". They spoke very very easy, very sinsative to your boat noise...a lure that isn't right with them; they shut off like right now! I turn off all my electronics..only use the trolling motor when have to, Im very stealthy and slow, like my life depends on it...These bass are like smallies are at dale, in the clear water!!! But there is a very good healthy bass popualtion there! My club has washed their hands of the place...they would rather fish the Ohio River, than Guist Creek Lake. I've found (might just be me), that the lake is notorious for early pre-spawn pigs! I've allways heard...(and it has proven true for me), that the lake is at it's best when very cold...or very hot (Like T-ville is)..."if" the water has decent color. It also seems that the night fishing there is great. Im sure the fish are feeding mostly at night a bunch. I also think the Hyb. stripers they put in there...didn't help much; I hated when they started that there. Of course...Im not a striper angler. Use the jig...find the sweet spots...much rock in that lake...more so in some ares...in 6-9 feet. If the jig ain't happening...throw the CB...but finesse it..yet it has to be make contact period. My hat's off to you demodan. I have struggled on Guist. Thanks for the tips! I'm sure I won't be able to stay away too long. It's just a great little lake for my 14ft john boat and having a decent population of lunkers makes it tough to give up. My latest thoughts were to try shaky head finesse worms or smaller bass jigs with small plastic trailers in hopes of tempting some timid bass. I never considered laying off the trolling motor and shutting off the depth finder. Maybe my luck will turn! As my buddy said after I released that 4lber last year, 'that one fish probably caused us to waste time on this lake for another two years!' lol.
YEA....everyone I know, wants to go to the moutian lakes..where they can also get into the smallies...that will come for me soon enough. I just have a feeling, that those big pigs in Guist Creek...will move up sometime this weekend...to get a little sunshine on their shoulders...They will enjoy the rays...shooting through the water, warming them up a bit...And I won't have to spend over $75 bucks just in gas to do so! I bet you that the 6 pounder is still in that lake (there are some 10's!!!)...and she is fat as a bisqet right now, feeding on the shad die off. They will eat...just have to put it right in their face...I like your idea of the smaller jig eddie_m....now your on to something dude! Thanks for the tips! Got one bout 6 lbs in that lake and several 3-4's. Thats a "hoss bass" lake for sure.
An 8.51 toad was weighed in at one of the USA Bassin tournaments there last year. I was amazed! It was fat, looked like it had swallowed a bowling ball, eyes bulging out, and half of its tail was hanging on by a little bit of skin.
The 4lber I caught last year had a huge knot of shad in its belly. The bass definitely eat well at Guist. I'd love to see one 8.51lbs. What a hog!
You can catch the 'Bigguns' in the Spring for sure.. I think that's the best time!! Through the Summer, It's a Night time bite... Last year was pretty good just because it was so stable all year, but overall... Spring or those great Summer nights.
