    Dell Computers

Just wanted to let everyone and anyone know that I think this company sukks! Here I am trying to buy a very nice Computer for a client ($5724) and I have left 2 messages, called 3 times got kicked off and when I finally talk to a live person they put me on hold only to come back and say that the business department is closed for some reason?? They don't know when they will open back up. Could be a few hours could be more...Now I ask you what kind of business are they running?

I'm gonna go to another computer company if they can't do better than this!! HP, Gateway or whoever but if I do I have to get it approved through the Engineer.....arghhhh I'm so pissed that companies treat people like this!

Oh yeah don't get me started on trying to understand people with peanut butter in the roof of their mouth! You know what I mean!!!

You're lucky they didn't respond. We have had several Dells in the past, but never again after our latest two experiences with Dell Customer Service over warranty, service issues. Worst group we have ever dealt with. Will never purchase Dell again...they burned their bridges with us and if you Google the subject, you'll find lots of others with similar experiences.

May have been a lucky break Don cuz I have only heard negative things about Dell and was told years old by a computer geek coworker never to buy Dell. I know like zip about computers so I dont know why but I stay away from them. If they are this bad when you are trying to buy one then imagine what they will be like for your client when they have questions about it or problems. May just be a blessing in disguise.

Yeah I'm surprised at this customer no-service. Some of these companies get so big that they change and seem to forget what got them there.

    DJ:

Don't rule out Sony Vaio's. Might want to add that to your list with HP. etc.

Govt here used to have some gateways, and while their customer support was good, we ended up calling for help an awful lot. Gateway always responded with quick "real person" on the phone support, a couple troubleshooting trys, then an immediate hardware replacement. But, we did a lot of replacing.

HP, from what I read has come a long way, and is teamed with Compac.

ACER bears a look at, they are putting out some good stuff now adays, cost effective, and PCWorld seems to like them.

And I do agree with you about Dell. At home here 3 years back I went to all Sony Vaios, I can actually get people on the line, but only had to do it once in 3 years on 2 computers. (Lightning and a case of dumb-butt on my part costed me a harddrive).

    Re: Dell Computers

I had some trouble with a Sony vio. Best buy ended up scrapping mine after 30 days twice at the best buy repair center. then I asked the guy at the local repair shop what kind of computer to buy and he said Lenovo Thinkpad.do not buy a computer from best buy or other consumer store. Get direct from factory.Typically stores like best buy send to their own repair center for service ad how could they know how to repair buy all the brands. Hp compac may be good. have one at home being abused by wife and kids and still ticking after 6 years. good luck.

We had issues here at work with Dell also. Customer support is horrible and usually Abib or Abdul is who that is helping you to, but that's true with most all of'em I guess.

Glad you guys posted this, because I am getting ready to buy a new laptop and was going to go with Dell, will probably go with Gateway, since I had had good luck with them in the past.

Check out Lenovo thinkpads or desktops (IBM still owns some of co). Tech support is in Atlanda or at least it still was a year ago or so. Computers are very durable. I have about 5 now and maybe owned 12 over the years.
Depot repair takes about 3 days. Very happy with lenovo would not change unless they change drastically. tech support great easy to contact--get a support contract.

I'll second the Lenovo vote as far as tech support goes. I just ordered the girlfriend a Ideapad netook and the battery that came with it was faulty. It wouldn't charge past 86% and the netbook would not run off of it for no more than 10 seconds before it would shut down. I made a call to Lenovo and spent about 15 minutes talking to a support guy that agreed the battery was faulty and he connected me to repairs somewhere in Georgia (maybe Atlanta like Peter said) and spent maybe 10 mins on the phone giving them my personal info and had a new battery at my door the next day as they overnighted it to me.

I'm going to say the good far out weighs the bad with them right now because we all know batteries can be problematic, the netbook was a real deal for the price/quailty and the support was top notch.
