Had a pretty good trip on the Licking River Saturday. Took night crawlers, minnows, and jigs. Caught one keeper crappie, 15" smallmouth, 12" largemouth, and two white suckers. If I had red worms I would have caught a ton of suckers. Getting ready to run any day. Talked to some buddies that go to a hot spot for crappie and only caught one bass. Said there were two huge otters in the creek! Keep hearing about otters popping up and the fishing declining sharply! A pond in Owen County was cleaned out by a group of seven otters! I know they won't affect fishing in larger bodies of water, but what is supposed to keep them in check as far a population? What do you guys think?![]()

What part of the Licking were you fishing? I live on the river and fish it all the time. i havene't seen any otters but there are Beaver up where I live, about 12 miles south of Cinti.
Thanks,
Bassky
I didn't see the otter on the Licking River. They were in a creek in Montgomery County but I have seen them in Maysville fishing the Ohio River. They will be like the beaver before long, everywhere!
Fished my home waters on Elkhorn this weekend and saw 2 of them varmits, one was as big as my black lab. They aren't anything but fish eating machines that don't follow creel limits. As far as I'm concerned they are the worst thing ever introduced to any body of water and should be eliminated. They would make good turtlebait.
