I just got back from fishing the big G for the first time. I was really impressed with the average size of fish in this lake. Pretty much every time you set the hook it was three pounds. We never really caught one of the big ones. On the first day I caught one that was 5 1/2. We did catch several in or around the four pound class. The weather really didnt help out much this trip. The first day it was 74 and partly sunny. Sunday when we left it was rainy and 47. During this trip we got hailed on (marble sized one time) twice. The cold front kinda shut the bite down for us. Not majorly but we had to adjust. I'm sure some most other people that knew the lake were still on them big time. On the first day we could catch them on a citrus redeye shad but after the cold front really set in we caught most of our fish on green pumpkin yum woolybuggers. We were catching fish the first couple days in shallow pockets with young grass in it. After the cold front we moved out to the main lake in front of the pockets fishing the grass out there. If you found the right type grass in it you were around fish. It was a really fun trip and I cannot wait to go back.
