    pictures inside post

I sometimes read the, smalljaws forums. and they have added a new feature, to their site. and I think it's great. any one that post on their site, and has caught a nice fish that they would like to share with the world. they can place the picture right their in the post. I wish this site had that feature. what do all you fishermen and ladys think, would it be a nice feature or not?

Um.........you can post a picture as an attachment on here. Pretty much the same thing, except the picture isn't right there in front of you -- you have to post a link to your pic. There is also a Photo Board on fishin.com.....http://www.fishin.com/forums2/forumdisplay.php?f=4

I personally like the link myself because people don't edit the picture size and you have to keep scrolling down and scrolling down because people also reply with quotes (like I have done in this particular post) and the pictures will continue to show up, over and over and over again (just like on smalljaw and other fishing forums sites). I don't want to see the same picture 15 times in one thread because people reply using quotations. You can delete them, but most people don't take the time to. Just my 2 cents.

thanks, for the reply. I understand how the site works with the attachments, and the photo board. but I think it's a cool feature, for your picture of the fish. to be right their with your report of how you caught it. and not have to click on an attachment or go to photo board to see the fish your reading about. and how many times have you went to photo board, to see a picture of a fish your were reading about. only to find the photo had been removed. this way, if the photo was removed. you would not have read the story, that made you want to see the photo.because it would have been removed also. I just like the fact, that if the photo is right their with the story, I can see it without turning a page. or opening another book to see it.

    You have a good point.

I have turned off the photo capability in most of the forums because from the forums elsewhere I have seen that allow photos everywhere seem to get cluttered up with photos. Seems like without the photos the information is easier to get to. ..but then with the photos It might be more fun and seem like more activity.

    Anybody else have any thoughts.

It can be useful at times. For example, a photo showing how to rig a certain bait or tie a knot. Also cool seeing photos of big fish that folks on the forums have caught. As long as folks aren't abusing it and posting photos of everything (will slow page loading times and increase the amount of storage space on the servers).

I guess I'm with Peter on this one. On other sites that allow pics, they often become cluttered with pics - and sometimes they are pics you don't want to see.

Also, I access his site from my phone more than I do from computer and that would slow hat down.

If anything, mobile access is becoming more and more prevalent and I think the general trend is less photos.

I'm in agreement that pictures "will slow page loading times and increase the amount of storage space on the server". However, I am also in agreement that pics are helpful in certain scenarios such as "a photo showing how to rig a certain bait or tie a knot".

This is one of those decisions for the moderators that will make 50% of the people concerned happy, and the other 50% upset. As mentioned before, the opportunity to post pictures on this site is there...in multiple forms.

I for one like the format the folks here at fishin.com have the forums and would rather not have to scroll down through picture after picture of the exact same thing.

Perhaps a compromise could be found in this suggestion: allow pictures to be added to posts on all the forum pages but remove the "reply with quote" option so the same picture wouldn't be added to each reply made. If we need to quote what someone has said, we can simply highlight the words and copy/paste them into our reply. Just a thought...
