Maters ain't fit to eat if they aren't homegrown. I had some good ones last year that were Better Boys, juicy and delicious. This year the wife wants some big ones, so I'm gonna try something different.

I limed my garden spot and my mater patch in November, will be time to till the dirt soon. We grow a 12 row garden and put out two dozen mater plants each year. In addition, a buddy of mine that has a farm down the road from me, allows me to grow a bigger garden at his place. That is where I do my corn and green beans. In my garden at home is mostly peppers.

I am one of those unfortunate souls that rents a tiller each year. Forunately for me, there is a rental place practically in my back yard.

Talked to a guy today that told me he just planted onions this week.

I don't put out a lot, just a few tomato plants, jalepeno peppers and green peppers...just in case you all haven't tried it you should try planting Brocolli about mid to late August. Brocolli takes about 60 days to harvest and come about mid to late October you'll be enjoying some of the best Brocolli you've ever eaten

I can't wait to get them maters in the ground! I'll also be planting a couple bell pepper plants, a few different herbs (only the legal kind ), and I think I'm going to try and grow some spinach this year. And my garlic, planted last November, shot up at least an inch or so in just the past week!

I'm trying something different this year. Growing taters in a box. I started 2 boxes that should give me 'bout 200 lb of taters. We put up 175 qts of tomatoes and 75 qts. of green beans last summer. I also made 35 pounds of sauerkraut and 120 qts of pickles. My beets didn't do good last year but I'll double up on them this year. I make my own hot sauce too, so I'll be puting in some tabasco peppers. I'm also gonna brine pickle my pickles this year.
