lipless crankbaits

i was wondering how the best way to use these is. I have tried burn it and let it die, straight reeling it , and bouncing up and down. I cant seem to do any good. I am using the sexy shad strike king lipless crank bait. Thanks

Seems like when I use them, I have the best luck when I am bumping it against standing timber, rocks, or anything that I can hit, and make it change direction, or give it that erratic look that bass seem to like. My suggestion would be to try and hit anything you can in the water, and when you hit it, let it drop, and then rip it up, and reel it in. But I have caught bass just on a flat reeling it in slowly, or just changing up speeds. Good luck, these are great springtime baits!

idk if it is a strike king thing but if i even touch a log or something it hangs up. i was letting it sink yesterday and it hung up without me even cranking. I was starting to get irritated at it

Agreed, I also like them on roadbeds or any rock like Bridge Pilings and rip rap. I really like the Redeye shad flutter when you stop it.

I've had most of my luck running them over submerged weed beds just touching the top of the weeds. then popping it out when it hangs. Shallow flats are also good, the pull and reel method works well. Pull it about three feet (not hard just enough to feel the lure vibrate), reel in pull again. I still use the Bill Lewis Rattle trap.. blue& chrome. And the bleeding shad.

Early spring, water temps 52-58 in flats leading into spawning areas. Slow roll, lift and drop seem to work the best. If you can find grass a few feet high with another couple of feet of water above the grass the tick and rip it off the grass. 1/2 Red Eye Shad in crawfish or sexy shad or chrome with blue or black back are pretty the only 3 colors I own and will cover most situations. Pretty deadly at Ky Lake and other river type impoundments again when the water temps hit just above 50 which won't be long.

Right now try stroking it, snap it then pull slowly for about 3 or 4 ft (imagine the bait only being about 4 to 6 inches off bottom) then reel down to it and repeat. experiment with colors but give them enough time because you may not be on fish right away. have 3 or 4 rods tied up with different colors and sizes - and use only them to become very proficient.

In fact that works on any bait, just throw the bait you want to learn a trip or two .... nothing else. You'll find 2 or 3 ways to use the bait you never really know and I recommend writing down your technique you found that works so you can remember.

thanks yea writing it down is a good idea. half the things i threw and caught fish last year i cant even remember what they were

i used a blue and chrome lipless yesterday and didnt catch anything. I ripped it through grass in 4 ft of water. Then my battery went dead so i switched it over tho the spare. It was shot. So i had to paddle bout 300 yards back to the dock. it sucked. My battery barley had enough power to raise my motor up. I cant get my boat out of the water without the motor up. That would of really sucked

How clear is the water your fishing? Blue and chrome doesn't work try black and chrome if it's muddier or overcast, if its sunnier and clearer water go with the painted styles. Try 1/4 oz rattle traps or my favorite xcalibur xr25's, downsizing works tremendously.

I have seen days when they would bite a 1/2 oz better and the next day wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. One day they want blue/chrome the next day royal red, the next black/chrome. You definately have to experiment till you hit it.
