What is the best Knot for flourocarbon line?

Polymor gets too hot! Uglyotter is 100% correct use the eugene knot and make it POP. It sounds crazy but the line will accually make a popping sound if done correctly. Easy to tie also.

Not sure what the Eugene knot is (it may be good), but it has been proven time and again (in many tests and tv shows I have seen) that the Palomar is the strongest knot...with several others coming in very close! These guys are correct in saying that you must wet the line first!

I've been tying a double Eugene bend (through the line tie twice), and then twist the looped end around the main line 3 or 4 times. It is stronger than the palomar with the lines I've been using, and can be tied just as quick once you get it down. I don't always here the click or pop, but it's still strong. In most cases I think the palomar is good enough though, but i might save a lure or two with this new knot. IMHO

Tie the Eugene knot and make sure it pops when you tighten the knot. If it does not pop then retie until it does pop. Absolute best knot for flourocarbon.

Ive heard many of the pros including Gary Klein argue that this is the best knot. Its easy to tie, and yes, you can hear a pop when you cinch it tight.

Good question and the variety of replies proves that no one has solved it yet.

I myself am much more comfortable with a palomar on mono... thats one thing I can be sure of.

Please feel free to ask and we encourage you to ask any questions you want in the future here. Most of the time you will get some pretty good answers. I read the responses with interest as I do not use a polmar knott.

Don't know the name but twice through the hookeye--creates a double loop--five times around the line that goes to the rod and back through both loops on the hook eye. Then it is then a good idea to hold the hook and the short (tab) end of the knott pliers (2 pair of pliers needed) and snug up the knott a little, this gets a little of the "air out of the knott. Used all summer and neve rhad one break.

Pomar knott probably easier and maybe better but there are times when using swivels and leaders etc that makes tying a Polbar more difficult.

North American Fisherman has been doing a series called Knot Wars for a few years. The used Trilene 100% Flourocarbon, Tracer Braid, and Mono XT Tough Red. The tied the knots and used a machine to break the lines giving them a lbs reading at breakage. The Eugene broke at well over the line rating above the knot for Mono and Braid making it a 100% knot for those lines. With Flouro it broke at 14.64lbs at the knot which is good but not the best. The Polamar consistantly broke above the line rating at points above the knot on all three lines. Making it a 100% knot on all types of line. Proving that the Eugene may be equal on mono and braid, but definately not Flourocarbon.

The improved cinch knot is very similar to the knot Peter described. That was the Trilene knot - which I use 90% of the time. But on Flouro the improved cinch is what I use. It doesn't pass through the hook eye a second time and you pass the tag end last loop created when you go back through the original loop - it is supposed to minimize the burn when cinching that flouro is notorious for.

By the way, there are no dumb or boring questions when it comes to fishing. The best way to learn is to ask questions. There is a lot of knowledge on this board, and even more than that, alot of people that are willing to share that with you. Ask away. There is also a search you can look through past threads.

Is this the knot you tought me this past weekend Bobby? I really liked it! I've heard pro's say that you don't want to use the polymer knot on Floro? I've been using the old "fishermen knot"...but Bobby H. showed me a new an improved method; sounded just like the one Col Forbin described. Always a good question.
