    Favorite hooks

Just got my order from Tackle-warehouse and I bought a pack of Lucky Craft hooks because those things are just sticky as heck and little to my surprise on the back of the pack it said "VMC Spare Hook", This year I have been up sizing my hooks with great success (on crankbaits) and was curious:

What baits do you change out from factory or replace with when it's time?

When I change hooks on my cranks and rattle baits I use Gamazautsua, cant spell it, Gama's are the best hooks I have used, but Mustad also makes a good replacement hook.

I'm pretty much with you on this one. I have used VMC at times. Most times I buy what available for replacement hooks on certain baits. I say certain because some come with great hooks.

I replace all my treble hooks. I will leave my lucky craft and megabass ones on there - I wish I could find those megabass hooks. I use gamma's. I will up the size to the point where they won't tangle. On my deeper crankbaits I will put an EWG treble on the back.

    Re: Favorite hooks

I replace most if not all of my trebles during the winter months...of course only the baits that were "used" during the season. I prefer switching to Owner trebles though. The only exception is with my jerk baits - I use a feathered gama treble for the rear treble.

Like you guys I like the gammas and mustads as well. You can get those megabass hooks (katsuage hooks) on ebay. I bought a couple of packs a while back. They are really strong, sharp, and seem to stick fish well but they scratch the baits up pretty bad because of the "outbarb".

    Re: Favorite hooks

One of my projects this winter was to change out all my cranbait hooks with new Gamakatsu EWG trebble hooks; sizes 2s, 4s & 6s My finger nails still hurt from prying the split rings apart. However, it's already paid off, I won our club tourny this past weekend on a crankbait and although every fish jumped after hooking, none of them came off. It gives me an extra boost of confidence knowing I can grab any crankbait in the boat and it's got a fresh of Gamakatsu EWG hooks when I throw it!
