Turned down St. Johns, supposively, but that was for a half a million dollars a year less plus with no income taxes in Florida, no telling what a total pay cut that would have been. Went to the Magic and then came back, turned down UK no telling how many times. I don't think he goes with kids in school and with the failures of other college coaches in the pros, I think he stays. I don't think I can recall one single college coach that went to the pros and succeeded. Callipary, Pitino, Mike Montgomery, Lon Kruger, Tim Floyd are the only ones I can think of and they all failed miserably with possibly Floyed having the best success and that success was marginal at best. All of them are back in college basketball and my guess is they wished they never tried it if they knew
how it would turn out

Diff sport but even Steve Spurrier blew it leaving the Gators years ago for the pro's. Wonder how Pete Carrol will do this time? It's gotta be the money that makes these guys feel like they are the one to change the trend of college coaches being successful in the pro's.

RE READ my original post it clearly states "with possibly Floyd have the better success". Don't follow the NBA but I "thought he was there the first couple of years that Jordan arrived" but obviously not. I will man up and take back the "with possibly" part and say they ALL SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!! Better

No matter the record none of them started out with the No 3 and No 6 draft picks, like Pitino (Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer) are you kidding me. Yeah, go ahead, I am busting on a ky boy in Ron Mercer, but I call a spade a spade. Ever heard of Tracy Mcgrady that was drafted after both of these guys.

Pitino did a good job when he was with the Knicks. He became head coach of the Knicks in 1987. The year before he arrived, the team had won only 24 games. In just two years, Pitino led the Knicks to their first division title in nearly twenty years. They made the playoffs both years, and in his second year they lost to Michael jordan and the Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals.
