Cane Pole Fishin

Never done this before, but I'm gonna go get two of those 14' cane poles I've seen at BPS, and start taking them to Miles Park, Fisherman's, Tom Wallace, places like that, and seeing what I can scare up out of the weeds. I was thinking I'd tie on a piece of 10 or 12-lb test about the same length as the pole, and a little jig with a white grub, maybe tipped with a wax worm. But like I said, I've never tried cane pole fishin' before, so I'd appreciate any tips anybody might have to share. Thanks!

We have a little crappie tournament at a back wash off the river where some river camps are. This place holds some nice crappie and is replenished each year by flooding. There is an old man that stays down there and all he fishes with is a cane pole. The last time we fished down there in the tournament he and his daughter were the only team to catch a limit of 25. One other team had twenty but his weight was like 3 pounds heavier. I watched him one day while I was fishing. He uses a 10 foot jon with a side mounted trollere and just trolls from one brush pile to the next dipping a minnow. IT WORKS

Down south their called a brim rod. Any where from 10 to 14 feet long. Great for gills and crappie. And for kids whom aren't that good at casting.. I'd use 6 to 8 lbs. test. 10 and 12 is a little too heavy.

Noodle rods is what I call em', got 4 or 5 of them and they are a blast for crappie and gills when they move shallow. Heres a little tip.... Tie on your main line, your float, sinker and barrel swivel. Then tie your leader with jig or hook with a lighter test. This way if you hang up, you will only lose your leader, and not have to rig up the whole pole, its gets to be a chore to tie the whole rig back up. If you like to panfish, you will fall in love with this method

I have a couple you can have if you are near downtown Louisville. Three sections each. One needs an eyelet on the end. Duct tape and a wire would probably work. 502-584-5512.
