Dale Hollow is ON FIRE

Boys they are saying it's so easy right now a Cave man can do it.

Swim baits three and four inch on lead heads with exposed hooks.

Jerkbaits suspending, some deep and some shallow.

Crankbaits, lipless and lipped baits. On windy days in colored water some guys are whacking fish on lipless crankbaits.

I'm drooling on my keyboard right now, I wish I could get down there, it's on, these warm days have kicked'em in high gear.

Well a lot of us guys put the fire out! 5hrs of casting swim baits, pointers, rattle traps, not a hit. talked to some guys who were there for 4 days, they got three fish, none keepers. Fished Tn and Ky waters, temps were only 55 degrees, main lake.

I heard the "ON FIRE REPORT" from Dale Hollow this time last year. 2 of us went down there mid April and fished hard for 2+ days. We caught a few but nothing to write home about. You might want to keep taking the report with a grain of salt. We fished the 30th and 31st and fished hard with crankbaits, jerkbaits, grubs, jigs and a few other baits and other then my partner getting one bit that was hit. We even talked with some guys on Tueseday evening at the motel and they were using live bait and could not get any hits. We had fished a couple of weeks back and it was the same thing but the water was also cooler. Water temp was ranging between 55 and 57 in some places this trip out. I hope you don`t have to worry about the grain of salt and you fill the boat. Best of Luck. I still love the Hollar!

We have been fishing Dale hard for 3 weeks-drifting shad,flippin shad,even bottom fishing when the wind was blowing so hard you couldn't hold boat with trolling motor.Been struggling to put 6-10 fish to boat each day.Size has been awesome but bites are slow.Water temps have been some of the problem ,BUT main culprit is the hugh dieoff of threadfins.Some of smallies would burp a small handfull of threadfin when brought to boat.Till shad that are weak and dead are used up, bite will still be slow.Seen a great improvement in last week ,but bite still ain't where it should be!

Threadfin shad are very sensitive to water temp below 40-42 degrees.When water temps get below 40 degrees ,they start to stress and die off.You will see schools of threadies near surface flipping and swimming sideways in cold water temps,watch closely and may see some slowly start sinking.When this happens gamefish don't have to work very hard for a meal.Cold water also slows down gamefish metabolism.Plenty of easy food +slower metabolism= a tougher bite.Not all the threadies will die off.Dead and dieing shad sink to bottom,sometimes turning bottom white.Fish will feed on them till they deteriorate.Coots and sea gulls were around State Dock in March like fleas on a dog slurping up a free meal.Fished Dale today ,alewives are starting to get along banks getting ready to spawn.
