Spit in the other eye for me. I can't beleive no body is allowed to blow these guys out of the water on a regular basis. An armed person is coming at you with the intent to board and you can't shoot at him? Stay away from my boat Man.I've always wondered about these "skiff's" they mention, stuff like: "What length boat, how many horse power, etc". According to what I read above they had extra fuel on board.
This has been one of those weeks for me...I'm kind of in the mood to spit some beechnut in some pirate's eye!
I've never heard that they're not allowed to, it's just that very few of those merchant ships are armed. But I think more and more are taking precautions these days. Look at the last paragraph of the quote from CNN: "Last week, one pirate was killed and several others were detained after a private security team thwarted an attack against a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship, the MV Almezaan. A European Union naval force was called in to assist the vessel."
I'd be interested to know what form this "detainment" takes. I hope they're not returning them home! If they don't just blow them away on the high seas, then at least the pirates should spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Duh! Really Duh pirates. Attacking a US Firgate with a skiff and small arms is like a wren challenging a Hawk to an aerial duel. It's kind of like taking your 1962 VW beetle and deciding to attack a 62 ton Abrams tank.
Totally duh!
Solution: No action required, the fools will come to us in the name of Alah. The US Navy will be more than glad to accommodate their desires to meet Alah face to face. Have you every seen what a 20mm Vulcan deck gun (hydraulically or pneumatically driven, six-barreled, air-cooled, electrically fired Gatling-style cannon, which fires 20 mm rounds at an extremely high rate. 4,000/6,000 shots per minute ) can do to a skiff. Shredded cheese!
