I have one main fishing buddy. We generally fish on the Ohio river. We use my boat and since I live in Indiana and he lives in Kentucky, we meet at the ramp. I have to use my truck to tow the boat, but what the heck, I was going fishing anyway.

Here is our "unstated" dividing of costs. He buys the bait. Minnows, chicken liver ,whatever. I supply the boat and the gas. That may not sound quite equitable for me but I truly have no problem in our "arrangement".

Yesterday we drove to Patoka lake, which is about an hour's drive from my house. Before we left my house, my buddy said, "Hey,I've got something for you." He came across a rod/reel combo sale at D*ck's Sporting Goods. Out of his trunk, he pulled out two Mitchell Advanta fishing combos. Medium action 6ft 6 inch rods with Mitchell spinning reels.
I've only got about 26 rods and reels in my boat barn but I was really floored by this gesture. I responded with a hearty "Thank you very much."

When we get back to my house after the Patoka trip, he handed me $20.00 and said "This is to help with the gas."

Now, that's what I call a good friend and fishing partner.
