No. I know a guy at a lake right now camping for 20 days and he brings his fillets home every 4 days to freeze. I dont care much for it but he aint breaking any laws. He has done this for 25yrs.

Re: Confusion about creel limit and possession limit?

I have been checked 2 different times in Canada. They went through the cabin, the sauna building, the boat storage building and went to the refrigerator twice to count and recount the processed fish. They looked under the cabin and in the other buildings for any sign of fish guts. They spent probably 30 minutes checking. We were a little nervous because we were not sure if we were 1 fillet under or over the possession limit.

Since everyone is chiming in, I want to run something by you. If fishing on Cedar Creek, and you catch a keeper Largemouth over the size limit. You get checked by a KDFW official. All is well, he checks you out, checks your livewell, checks to make sure its a keeper, and all the other things he decides to check.

Here is the question. Can you keep bass fishing? Or are you required to leave with that fish?

This happened to a friend of mine 2 weeks ago, he was required to either put the fish back, or take the boat out and go home. Called me on the phone on his way home, told me the official told him he would be in violation if he kept fishing. I just about flipped my lid when he told me. Did not get the name of the officer, and cant for the life of me understand this.

Keep fishing Don! You can cull what you have in the livewell for a better fish. I have had that tried on me at Green River Lake and I assure you it will be OK! PS, dont cull a dead fish!

Re: Confusion about creel limit and possession limit?

When we go to kentucky every year as a group, we filet at the end of every day just to avoid any confusion. We get our 6 a piece on Bass by noon, go to the cabin and filet em, then decide to either crappie fish fr the rest of the day or head to Murray and hit up local stores or what not. get our daily limit and take er easy...

Re: Confusion about creel limit and possession limit?

I called the state and had them explain it to me. Every person is allowed a limit on the boat. I didn't get clarification on the possession limit because I do know that if you keep your cooler inside of a tent, camper, houseboat, ect. they have to have a warrant to search it and check what is in it because these are all considered dwellings. Keep it inside and don't give anyone a reason to get a warrant and you are fine.

So, if you and a buddy are Crappie Fishing and you have already caught 28 (considering a creel of 20 each) and you get checked...If you want to get back at your buddy for something, you just tell the warden that your buddy caught all 28..That's cool

I have heard that you better get the shorter fish out of your live well before you put the longer one in though. Because if you don't, then you are in violation becase you have over the limit. Just what I have heard, don't know how true it is.
