Busted up tails are not the best/only sign of spawning. Steve (from other post) what makes you think they have spawned? I'm sure they are closer to spawning in ponds and smaller lakes though.
You keep thinking that. I'll keep pulling them off the beds at loon. Stevens can tell you the same thing. And the bluegrass area would qualify as a smaller lake with loon and otter being shallower than bluegrass. 190 acre lake after a good down pour is a smaller lake. If fish have bloody tails and are not moving off one bed for just about anything i would see that as they are spawning. Now I will agree that the bigger females have not all moved up yet. But the males sure are ready. With big fish being caught at a really good rate right now it's the start of the spawn. Just because you're not seeing reports or pictures of them being caught there does not mean it isn't happening. The guys who fish bluegrass a lot I promise you they are holding their own right now.
