Ditto the wiring...have helped 2 different buddies rewire older TM experiencing similar problems. Also try to check the internal wiring of the TM if you can access. If your boat wiring is small, upgrade to #4 or #6 ga. It will handle the high current draw better, run cooler, and help your batteries last longer.
