Loose or dirty connection somewhere - I would check clean and tighten every connection point from TM to battery.
Had a similar problem last year - connection had vibrated loose.

Can anyone offer some suggestions with my trolling motor problem:
On low speeds the trolling motor runs fine. When I turn it up to 70+ it starts to sputter going in and out. I'm also tripping the breaker now and again. I'm wondering if it isn't a contact but I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
W. Amos

It does sound like a connection problem. Also it sounds if you might be pulling excess amerage. Try taking the prop off and checking for line or something of that nature dragging on the prop causing more amp draw.
if neither of those work check the battery. E over I R. if E (voltage) drops amperage goes up. Amperage goes up breakers kick. This is rare but I have seen it. Especially on older batteries and breakers.
hope this helps

check the wiring too, from the batts to the plug in the front.
Ditto the wiring...have helped 2 different buddies rewire older TM experiencing similar problems. Also try to check the internal wiring of the TM if you can access. If your boat wiring is small, upgrade to #4 or #6 ga. It will handle the high current draw better, run cooler, and help your batteries last longer.
It never hurts to take the top cap off and check where the wires make the bend to go into the shaft. Sometimes they will rub a bear spot right there. If it is something that you can't figure out on your own, I would take it over to Honey Creek and let Jason look at it. He can get it back to you a lot quicker than most other places.
