I have a Barnett wildcat C5 and im shooting red hot hv carbon arrows. Ive been shooting 100 grain field points and want to get some good broadheads. Do I need a special type of broadhead for crossbows? If not, Ive been looking at- NAP bloodrunner expandables, Carbon express F15 expandables, magnus stinger buzzcut and carbon express f15 fixed blade. Does any one have any info on these? Which one do you think are the best? Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm no expert on crossbows, far from it. However, I did some investigative work on this about a year ago as my son wanted a crossbow. Basically what I found out was for the most part (key words) you can use what you do in a normal compound bow situation including mechanicals and fixed blades. With that being said, I had SEVERAL people recommend NAP spitfires. I ended up trying the spitfires and they performed very well as far as accuracy and being tough. However, I personally believe you lose a lot of penetration with the Spitfires due to how they open. I also tried Rocky Mountain Synper's (another mechanical) which is based upon the Rage action with the exception is has a small rubber band holding the blades closed. They performed exceptional in all aspects. In addition I tried NAP's Thunderheads, Slick Tricks as well as Montec G5's. What I found was the performance for the most part was what I experienced out of a compound bow. For simplicity and ease of use I went with a mechanical combination of both Rocky Mountain Synpers and the Spitfires. If I had to pick a fixed blade I would go with a G5 product either a Montec or the Striker.
Hope this helps.
