Been fishing them for years since they first came out. I have done well with them but done just as well with the original Rattletrap. I know they won't replace the original rattletrap because the old standby still feels good and catches fish.

The original rattletrap can't be beat. Also the XCaliber rattle baits are awesome to. Strike King is good but are hyped alot by Pro's getting a check. The day KVD won the classic, 10 other rattle baits would have probably done the exact same thing. The difference is Strike King is his major sponsor, money talks and BS walks.
i use both rattle traps and red eyes and will say this- if fishing tall, submerged grass ripping the red eye through it and then letting it fall will fill your livewell very quickly! i've caught some nice bass when nothing else would pick them up in the summer just by getting that reaction strike on the fall in grass. something about the way it "shimmy's" on the fall turns them on more than other baits.
I agree with what everybody has posted thus far...even the comment about treble hooks!! However, one major downfall with the redeye shad, is the paint job.
Not sure how many of you have noticed, but the paint job on these baits is less than "acceptable". Don't even try to work these baits through rocks (which you probably shouldn't be anyway) or your $5.49 lure will come back with half of its paint missing on the first cast. If there's wood around...the trebles will find it and good luck getting it back. However, the redeye shad works great in open water and grass!!
A slow rolled day means no nose on red eyed shad or rattle traps. Now my spros and yo-zuri's are still in go shape. Last year had lots problems with the knockers. Hooks very poor, now this year some hooks on them ok. weird.
all the paint came off mine!!!
I like the red eyed shad, but I think the lipless clacker bait will catch more fish. it is a trout killer, I don't even like to catch trout. I went to woods creek the other day, caught 3 bass with it. but couldn't fish it for catching little 10 inch trout. laurel same way, the trout love it.
thats so true about the suckie paint job, I tossed this thing around at my tournament last weekend and didnt catch a fish on it and it looks so soo beat up!
