Had a great hunt this morning with the ole front stuffer! They tore the woods up on the roost this morning and I got where I thought they wood pitch out. Sure enough as luck would have it the first bird, a nice goobler pitched out right in front of me but out of range for my soot blower. I hit the call very little and he turns and heads back my way. Just then a couple hens pitch out in the same area as well. The first gobbler was a nice one but didn't act like the boss man, just then right behind me the ole boss man hammered twice in a row. I'm pretty sure I jumped a little he was so close but I couldn't see him. Then I knew why the other bird was acting a little funny. I could hear the big bird drummin hard comin down the ole loggin road hard to my left but just over the edge of the bank and out of sight. His buddy is in easy killin distance from me now and was headed to give the boss man an escort but would never gobble or strutt. In a matter of seconds I see the boss man making his way down the ole logging road in full strutt with his buddy in tow. I watched him strutt and gobble a couple times right in front of me then I let him get a good sniff of black powder couple with a heapin helping of #5's. I liked to never of gotten him to break strutt and give me a good shot so I had to do him like I do deer, lol. Smoked him at 23 yards, very early. Actually, in a way I was kind disappointed it happened so fast, lol. Sounds crazy but man I love workin them turkeys.
