Decisions with the lakes finally getting to summer pool

Some of the lakes are just now getting to summer pool and they should be normal this weekend. So now I have the decision either fish the new water in the heads of pockets where the water is just getting deep enough to hold fish or stay on the areas that have been holding fish with the water down. I know the fish will move up vertically with the rising water it isnt coming up that fast but will they move back into the new flooded cover in those shallow flats. Decisions decisions. Anybody been fishing this week and exerianced anything that could give a hint.

GET BACK IN THE BACK DUDE!!! Start there and fish hard. That new water will be great!! I'd say they will move up. Now for the very large bass...they might not be as quick to move up...It will be something to find out...for some lakes...they will move up and spawn like crazy now, the last bunch...for others, like Dale or Cumberland...Green River lake...I'd say they will be mostly post spawn...looking for a little deeper water there. BUT...they could be wanting a huge meal in their bellies... to take with them to recoup. I'd say the top water action will be on...frogs and the such in the shallows / plastics...Im going to Rough again Sunday..last weekend we did ok. Booby shake had three nice keepers..look like per-spawners were on!!! Going to be interesting this weekend...but Im beating it will be the best weekend thus far for the year!!!!

There wasnt much courtin goin on in the shallows last weekend where I fish. Some but not alot. I expect this weekend to be the weekend of love for the green fish. But still there should be plenty of postspawn and prespawn fish out there. I plan on going way up the lake where the water is stained warmer and by my guess more fish will be postspawn vs down towards the dam where the spawn will be full bore. Time will tell if its the right decision.

Depends on where you will be fishing. I know they are pulling water hard at Barkley and have been all week. This will pull the shallow fish out and turn them off. It has been my experience that a heavy lake pull on shallow fish is disaster. Hopefully they will slow down some so the bass can get to bedding. The last time I checked the lake was about a foot and a half over summer pool which is great but they are pulling it at almost 42,000 which is terrible for spawners and want-to-be spawners. The only fish that will stay shallow are the one's locked on beds and they will leave if the water level starts getting too shallow. I don't know what the other lakes are doing but I would assume that if they are pulling water hard the fish won't be too shallow in them either and will be tough to locate and get to bite.

It has been my experience that points and steep banks in the creeks are a good place to start looking for fish when lakes are being pulled hard. The fish want to be close to shallow water but they also want a quick and easy exit to deeper water if the need arises.

This weekend the local weatherman is calling for heavy rains Friday night and Saturday with rain running into Monday. If this holds and is statewide most of the lakes will be pulling water next week.

    Good luck
