    Re: Fishing Superstitions

I wont get the net out until someone needs it, I wont fill the livewells up until someone catches one, and I wont take the camera out of the glovebox unless someone needs it, and I wont catch a fish on the first cast!

mHall, I feel the same way about the hats. LOL! Also, I never mix alcohol and H20. The banana and first cast also hold true with me.....

    Re: Fishing Superstitions

OK, first off, to append to an earlier poster's saying:

Wind from the East, fish bite the least
Wind from the West, fish bite the best
Wind from the South, blows the bait in the fishes mouth
Wind from the North, fisherman should not go forth (yeah, right)

Catching a fish on the first cast is bad, but if more than one are on the boat, you should not be the one to catch the first fish either. Unless significant $$ is involved, one should proceed to jiggle, shake, flop, or otherwise break off the first fish. This superstition ends faster if your partners are unaware of this rule - and remain so on subsequent fishing trips. Nail clippers are handy for abiding by this rule in times of dire emergency. Braid is not a good choice here, use cheap Walmart mono or barbless hooks until your partner catches the first one.

But OUR #1 superstition of ALL time on our boat:

If your partner is catching and you aren't, and you change bait to match your partner (size, color, type), ALL will stop catching. It's THE rule. It is unchangeable. It is non-negotiable. Said copycat can be banished from said boat. Period. Happens every time - it just does.

i always make my first cast away from my target area, so as not to catch one on the first cast.

I ALWAYS take bananas on my boat. (I hate pirates) I always listen to Willie Nelson on my way to the lake or while I'm catching bait. Can't catch w/o Willie!

Another vote for cows laying in the field. Also, if the birds are lined up on the utility line, might as well head back on home.

    Re: Fishing Superstitions

Man, this is some funny stuff here now.

Every post I read I would find myself looking back on the days I did bad and try to remember if the cows were laying in the field or, If the old lady snuck a bannana in the lunch bag. The Bannana one is the best one LOL!!!

I have carried around my son's first cloth baby shoes(Small Socks) in my pocket on tournaments and seemed to help some. Coincidence don't know.

My wife misplaced them and wasn't able to find them again. And seemed to go down hill some after that until i just forgot about it.

But, anything that makes you feel better mentally and puts you in the right state of mind, will improve your day on the lake no doubt. It's a mental thing IMO.

Great stuff though, keep it going!!!!

    Re: Fishing Superstitions

I've got an old UK sweatshirt that has been absolutely eaten up with battery acid from handling trolling batteries before and after trips. That's my lucky clothing. I even wear it in the summer until I start pouring sweat and can't take it anymore! Because it has holes in the "kangaroo pouch", though, I always drop something in the water when I slip up and store something there.
