    Dave stewart question

Dave, when prefishing for a tournament and you catch a couple of really nice fish in an area. How long will it take for the "sore mouthing" of those bass to go away. Will they bite again in a few days or weeks????? Thanks Dave.....

    Re: Dave stewart question

I know this is a question for Dave but I would like to maybe add something in here too. Its more of a question along the same lines as yours. I was under the impression that Bass or really all fish in general do not have a nervous system but rather a notacord. They can't sense the feeling of pain as we do. but they can sense changes in their environment. I am also under the impression that they have no memory or at least a very very short one. I'm not 100% sure if this is acurate and maybe Dave can clairfy, but this is what I have been led to believe. But I am also very interested in the responses to this great question. I think it is possible to catch the same fish even in the same day. not likely but definantly possible.

    Re: Dave stewart question

It has been my experience that big fish may take a day or two before they will bite a lure again after having been hooked and fought....young fish can be taken many times on the same day. I have experienced a big fish biting the same lure on the same spot for a few days in a row..but this has been rare.

Bass do not have a big brain...but they do have a brain...basically they get conditioned to things that may in their world spell out danger etc....check out the information on this link about the forebrain of a fish....pretty basic actually.

Here are my thoughts on prefishing the day before the tournament...if you find fish and catch a good one...cut your hooks or bend your hooks so you cannot hook her and fight her in. Best to prefish two or more days out in my book...but sometimes that is just not possible.

    Re: Dave stewart question

I read a article about this subject...a guy that had a pond on his property kept seeing the same bass on the same spot everyday. He would catch it and then try later the same day to catch it again with no luck. Then the next day as soon as the lure was put in the same spot the bass would take it. He did this day after day. So yes they have what you would call a memory but it is not very long.

That may be true for some fish, but the bass in Guist creek all have PHD's.
