    Re: Kentucky River

I was on the river last week (Wednesday) and didn't do any good.

There was a guy there who had caught a bunch of nice crappie but he had been fishing the river for 15 yrs (and lived right on it)

The river is really low and I hit a darn log floating right below the surface at WOT. Ouch. There was quit a bit of debris in the river so if you go be careful

Know a couple guys who caught a couple keepers on Carolina Rigged lizards a day or two ago. Deeper water the better.

caught dinky bass last Mon. Found crappies really deep, about a foot off bottom around stick-ups. Catfishers were having no luck. didn't make it up to the dam.

i dont know whats going on with the river. i figured the low stable water would make things good this year but i havent done any good. ive been on upper and lower pool in frankfort and managed one crappie and one gar. pittyful! i went back and read my past issues of ky afield and read about all the fish they ve been stocking and this latest one with the fishing forecast lists the ky river as one of the best places to go for crappie. i'm scratchin my head.

it's called marketing, they can't sell the magazine. without an eye catching article. I don't think those guys know where the fishing is good, any more than you or me. I read the top catfish spots in their magazine. and tried two places last year, and they weren't any better than, the places i'd been fishing.

People do pretty good with the crappie on the river. I don't know how - but they do. Last week I saw a guy who had caught a bunch (10+) 13-15" crappie.

I just can't figure them out.

I should have added that 2 weeks ago I caught 20+ bass fishing with minnows around drop offs. Largest bass went 3 pounds, I put them all back for you fellas to catch later

I caught a gar below lock#7 last Sunday. Nasty fish and there were a lot of them.
Anyone know the condition of mouth of boones creek? My coworker said it was his honey hole, but that's 30 years ago.

    Re: Kentucky River

Was on the river Wednesday and it is low, very clear (for this time of year) and not much flow. Found a couple of keeper sized bass on a crank near current. Caught one LARGE crappie on same crank (17") and 2 drum. Slow for the conditions.
