    Nolin Lake Walleye

Hello All; I'm taking my first ever trip to Nolin River Lake next weekend. My family and I are staying at a cabin near Wax. I'm one of those early risers, so while everyone else sleeps in I hope to tie in to a Walleye or two. Is the Walleye fishing at Nolin as good as people have told me? I have heard it is a relatively clear lake so I assume planner boards are in order? I plan on using crawler harnesses quite a bit, are any bait shops close to Wax. Any info any of you would be willing to share would be greatly apperciated. I'll be on a 16' Sylvan with the walk-thru windsheild and a 75 horse Merc on the back. If you see me give a wave! Thanks, DuV

    Re: Nolin Lake Walleye

We used to catch a good number of walleye in the late 90's but it seems the numbers are down from back then .
I would run up the river past sportsmans and troll jointed shadraps ,long line them and troll very slow on the channel dropoffs .

I know the Amish guys still seem to catch a few and they use nightcrawler harnesses .We used to catch walleye lots of times Bass fishing

    hope this helps

    Re: Nolin Lake Walleye

I went to wax yesterday to do some walleye fishing. I had fishing reports from early in the week that the island there at wax, (go right from the ramp, under the bridge, then just around the corner) was producing walleye and and the occational crappie in 20ft of water. We didnt have any luck but I believe if my buddy had been so dead set on walleye I could have caught some crappie for sure. Caught one in deep water and heard other people were catching them. Anyway I noticed further on down the lake from the island several boats that looked like walleye fisherman rather then bass fisherman but again my buddy didnt think they were. We went back down the lake past the ramp to Buck Branch I caught a few bass on shad rap before dark and when we took out one of the boats that had been down from us took out. It was a young Amish guy who said he had caught a bunch of walleye. They are using a night crawler rigs that they troll. These rigs go by names like Erie Dearie or something like that. We jig night crawlers on jigs which shouldnt have made that much difference, we just werent in the right spot.

I forgot to mention you can get pretty much anything you need at Days Pro Bass Shop in Wax just around the corner from the ramp.

Erie Dearies are basically a painted hunk lead with a small spinner in front. They very popular on Lake Erie in 90's. I beleive I still have a half dozen or so of them. I'll check out Days. It looks as if you can go quite aways up Bacon Creek. Is there a speed zone in that area and how far is it from Wax to Bacon Creek Ramp. Thanks, DuV

I usually fish for Walleye up Bacon Creek later in the summer. Ive not fished for them there this early after the spring spawn. We usually night fish for them there as well.
