Not necessarily. There are times when several of those lakes would have good enough water clarity to fish these baits. If fish are looking up to feed and you have 1 foot plus water clarity I would not hesitate to throw it and keep them honest.
All good info here... I'm still trying to figure out when and where to fish swimbaits around here. I'm fishing El Salto in June and plan to fish a swimbait A LOT. One of the methods they use down there is to rig it on a Blade Runner jighead (you can find them at www.tacklewarehouse.com)
The Basstrix and Money Minnows seem to be good choices...
I've caught them in lakes and ponds with these baits. Soft and hard swimbaits both. I'm really liking them and it's expanded my fishing arsenal quite a bit. Had a day recently that would have been a bust but the hard swimbait saved the day and I do mean saved the day.
I hate you...I have been DYING to get to El Salto... be sure to get lots of pics and let me know how the whoel experiencce was when you get back...
