    splice sonar cable?

My trolling motor caught my sonar cable and cut it very nicely when I was stowing the trolling motor! Can I splice it back or do I need a new transducer and cable which Humminbird suggested?

I spliced my Humminbird transducer back togethere a year ago, and still working fine today. I sealed it with epoxy and taped it real good and tight with electrical tape. I didn't think it would work, but thought I'd give it a try before dipping in my wallet.

I have spliced them with success, as long as you seal it good, and tape, no matter how much, will not completely seal a splice. They say you can't splice it because they want to sell you another transducer, it's only wire, and wire can be spliced, a connection is a connection, as long as its a good one.

yes you can splice the cable. I have done it several times on my own and for some fishing buddies. The wire is very small and can be pull apart very easliy. After splicing the wires lay them back and make sure you connect color coded and do not touch with any other wires. Seal with 100 % silicon and when dry wrap with good electical tape.

there are also some compression type plastic fittings that you can use to seal the cable.i have spliced a few and used these they work good.as does shrink tube.
