    Re: Cumberland The Big Rise

From what I have read, the Dam has is leaking. The more pressure on the dam, the more errosion from the leak. The reason to keep the dam lower is to minimize the pressure, thus minimize the amount of errosion until they can fortify the leak area plus all of the like area. This dam has held this amount of water and more in the past and I do not think they are worried about it busting today. They are more concerned with what may happen in the future if it goes unchecked. I would also imagine there is a cost to the currrent structure based on the intrution for the repairs. I would hope they would have factored in this sort of short term situation in their plans.

Glad? Man you haven't seen the lake yet have you . I'll bet more people tear stuff up than weigh fish. People who don't use this lake don't realize how the old weeds and leaves from last year get matted on top making it impossoble to get to the bank to fish. Not to mention the thousands of logs that where left on the bank when it was drawn down to do the repair. IT will be the highest it has been since the draw down. PLUS it is not done, the creeks and rivers are still full and running in. THEY can't let much out because the river is flooded all the way to nashville.GUYS the first thought was to move it to laurel. It only rose 4 ft and is already falling. I have fished this lake for 30 years and when it raises this fast it is a week or more AFTER it stabilizes before the fish adjust. It may be the end of next week before it stabilizes....

Don't know if your T-Dir has taken a look at the lake, but my advise to all "would be fishermen", stay home, or find another place to fish. Serious

I was going to fish cumberland on my way to Guntersville next week. I think this thread killed that idea.

thanks for the information. We did not get nearly as much rain in Northern Kentucky so other then news pertaining to Nashville I'm not very in touch with all the rain cental kentucky got over the weekend.

Thumbs down Re: Cumberland The Big Rise

fished cumberland today and had a pretty good day= 8 stripers, 3 smallmouth over 20 inches and a really big flathead on a crankbait. you have no choice but to fish hard, cause you sure aint gonna run very far. had to push the logs out of the way just to get back out of some of the coves. idled everywhere we went.....i live less than 5 minutes from the lake and i get to see it everyday and cant remember it ever being this bad in 40 years. the main lake is almost impassable in places where the wind is bunching the debris and logs. good luck and be safe.

Mud hasn't made it down to Jamestown area as of yet but it's coming. East end of lake looks like the Ohio River, clarity the worst it's been in years. Debris fields and mats are the worst than most locals that have lived there all their life have ever seen. Parts of the east end, you LITTERALLY can not see the water AT ALL.

Good luck with your tournament, LOL.
