Abu-Garcia Vendetta
x2 on BPS crankin sticck
Can't go wrong with a crankin' stick! I use a 7' MH and can handle all sizes of crankbaits easily from wake baits to DD22s. They are surprisingly sensitive too!
Havent tried one but my buddy has one of the new All Star Crankin rods and he loves it. I believe they go for $80.
IM-6 Trigger Stick 6'6" or 7' M or MH from BPS. I've practically towed my boat with them when I've been snagged. With shipping the cost is $48.94 unless you can get to BPS then all you do is pay $34.99 + tax.
I know a lot of people don't like All Star, but I love mine. I have really small hands and the Vendetta with an orra or revo fits really great in the palm of hand.
The cranking stick from bass pro is supposed to be a quality rod. I know one pro who uses them or at least he used to. I wouldnt use one only because I dont like the power hump grip they use but alot of people like the grip so its a matter of preference. But my advice would be to shell out another $20 and get something with a lifetime gurantee. The rod will last a long time that way. The shimano Compre comes to mind. It will run you $100.
Oh yeah I also forgot to mention the new Wright McGill Skeet Reese rods. They are $90 and have a lifetime warranty. Supposed to be great rods they are all one of the best bass fisherman ever uses.
I have the Abu-Garcia Vendetta and its a little stiff. Have had a few different cranking rods and for the money I really like my skeet rod. Its light but still strong and not to stiff but not to loose like an ugly stick still has back bone, and I've never (and I shouldn't say this because I have a tour this weekend but never pulled a crank away from a fish with it yet. They set them self's with this rod while your cranking and bumpin the bottom you will feel your rod tip load up and thats it. So if you can stand a bright yellow pole this one is a great one.
I bought the Skeet Reese Tessera rod just for CB's. However, after testing the actions in the shop, I settled on the spinnerbait/worm model as the crankbait rod is too much of a wet noodle action for me. With 12lb line, it will throw a 1/4oz RedEye Shad a mile. It could perhaps use just a skosh more tip action, but I'm satisfied with it so far. US Bass store in Dover, TN sells them for $76.
The Skeet Reese crankbait rod is perfect. The "noodle" action is what you want for crankbaits. The only crankbait that i do not throw with it is a rattlebait. I like a stiffer rod to rip the bait through grass. Good luck it is getting harder to save money when buying fishing gear.
BPS had a big sale (early this spring) on there BPS Viper reels and XPS rods so i got a 7' MH rod. At first i thought the reel was pretty lousy so i cleaned all the excess grease out of it and the berings and it turned out to be a nice reel for $45 I was real impresed with the rod it is a very accurate casting rod and done a great job of pulling a 5 puonder out of the sticks..
Every one that has used it has nothing but good things to say about it ( I wounder who makes those rods? I do know that browning made the Viper reel for BPS..
Here is a little tip for you and it is somthing i do to all my new rods , I take and put on some kind of wight and dangle it from the end working the rod like a jig this helps soften up the rod so you dont break it on the first hook set.. How much weight depends on how stiff the rod is on my XPS rod i used about 1 puond while it was dinglling i rotate the rod.. It also help with casting ditance allowing the rod tip to load / unload better.
