12 volt, I'm not seeing anything about it being closed till May 12th. I don't currently see any dates or days listed. Last night the statement said until at least Monday? Hopefully once the lake stops rising, conditions will improve so we can get back on the water.
Yeah that says till Monday. It looks like according to tva, it will rise only to 369.7 by tom. night. Of course that could still change again. I hope she is falling at least a little by Monday.
Kentucky and Barkley Lake UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with the Coast Guard. I got the final verdict on lake closings and what portions of the lake's are closed (until 10 MAY-subject to change).
CLOSED:
Lake Barkley
KY LAKE (Mile Marker #1 to 68 Bridge)
OPEN:
KY Lake (68 Bridge-SOUTH, PARIS ETC)
I am told they will monitor the lakes throughout the day(s). The main focus at this time is SAFETY.
BE VERY CAUTIOUS IF YOU ADVENTURE OUT, SHE TOLD ME THERE WERE NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF "LARGE" ITEMS IN THE WATER.
Now it says from the 68 bridge North is closed (Kenlake), they've reduced the "safety zone"
Wow thats a big deal. Lots of guides affected and vacations ruined. I wonder what the economic impact is for this. I know a guy who just got back I guess he left just in time.
Yep...economic impact will be felt for a long time I am sure. I am out a couple thousand already and I am sure that is just a drop in the bucket to the local businesses this weekend with all the tournaments and vacations being cancelled. But worse is the impact on all the families that are flooded out below the dams and upriver in Nashville etc...time to stop and say a prayer for all the folks that have lost loved ones and their homes etc. in this disaster. My losing a few thousand dollars is nothing compared to the losses those folks are experiencing.
Seen on the weather channel last night an interview with an Army Corp of Eng gentlemen. The Corp is now referring to this as a 1000 year flood, that's right a 1000 year flood. According to them this flood is one for the ages and nobody yet has totally realized just how expansion and devastating this thing is.
Dave is right, alot of us and me included are worrying when we are going to be able to go fishing again. A heck of alot of other people get to litterally start life all over again with everything they had gone. We all need to keep this in perspective.
Just think,if TVA lakes and dams hadnt caught a lot of it what it then would be like,as it stands Nashville flood broke the 37 flood level.
Without them homes would have been much closer to the actual rivers, and the flood waters wider than what ky lake normally is.Ky alone has risen from 357 to 367 and already caught ten ft of it.With about another two to go.
Ive refrained from going out even though im south and the revised area does not include me now,but have fished, from the bank.
Paris Landing is closed, port road is still usable, take a number(30 unit parking),floaters unseen docks-daytime only and a good topwater buzzbait bite just as the sun is setting at which time your supposed to be off the water.
Again if you have an itch the bank is quite satisfactory over a lu or a hefty fine, with those in the ky portion leaning towards the fine.
All the time that first day when they were telling people to get off,not once have I heard someone in Tn say they did that to them, maybe they knew all along what area was effected ,not what was printed lol.
If all of barkley is closed, is it because of current, floaters or the buoys being washed or combination of all. Also why is only the top of ky closed now and not the whole thing. Is it that the CG has checked the buoys that far up ky. don't get the partial closing
Just came back from a week of fishing there. As already posted open from 68 bridge to paris . MUDDY and super HIGH.Looks like Coffee with creamer. We fished Sat.,Sun,Mon with lots of fish being caught, biggest 22 inches.Lots of quality fish those days, water came up along with bluebird skies and fishing slowed considerably . Blood River still had clean water when we left today. Caught 19 inch smallie wednesday that was real nice.Today was hit miss with no quality fish(over 18). Fished shoreline cover and there is a butt load of that now, lol.Water temp in low to mid 70's depending on where you were at.Fished brushhogs and baby brushhogs texas rigged as well as carolina.Later in week seemed the better fish were off secondary points near creek channels.Hope this helps someone, had a blast. Will be going back to this great fishery. We stayed at Paradise resort, nice place and very friendly.![]()
