back from barkley this evening. spent sat.- wed. afternoon. had a really good trip despite all the weather. that water was unreal. anyway, about the trip.
saturday we only fished for about 4-5 hours. it was raining hard and we had drove all night. we only caught 11 as we could not hardly run anywhere we wanted with the weather.
sunday, we had a fun day. the railing that i had held on to cross to the boat dock the day before was now under water. we caught 44 with 7 keepers.had two close to 4lbs. and had close to 15lb bag. we pitched lizards in the bushes that day. every fish was on a lizard except 1 of the big fish on a buzzbait.
monday, the fishing became a little tougher because the were beginning to scatter. however, we did find 6 big fish and a bigger bag than the day before. we had an 18lb bag with our best 5 but all keepers caught were nice ones. we caught 33 total. every fish on a lizard including a beautiful smallmouth over 18 inches near the back of the bay on a blowdown.
tuesday, with rising water and our bays getting all muddied up the bite got tougher. caught the biggest fish of the trip within 5 minutes of the start to the morning. i caught her in the middle of a tree on a lizard in the new green leaves. a good solid 5lbr. we thought the day was gonna be great. we caught one more 17 inch keeper and that was it. the bays were really getting muddy, especially the one where majority of our keepers came from. we caught 34 total but only the two keepers.
wednesday, the lake is completely blown up today, it was simply unbelievable. our next best bay was now muddy as can be, but we followed the creek a loooong way back to clear water. we sit in a spot probably 30 yards by 30 yards in the flooded trees and caught 54 bass by noon. there were no keepers, but thats some of the most fun ive had in a while. we quit at 12:01 exactly. we got a call from a friend who works at the corp, and he talked to the man over barkley lake who told him they would be closing the lake. bummed our day and ended our trip. all but a few of those fish were on a lizard. we could have caught 150 - 200 fish in that little spot. it was probably one of only a few spots on the lake with clear water and them 14 inch bucks were stacked in there. it was a lot of fun even though the fish were smaller.
we had a really fun trip and a couple days of pretty good fishing. we even visited buzzard rock for a couple hours during the heat of the day and got to cool off if you know what i mean. cant wait til next spring!
