I love flipping a 1/2 oz jig with a pork chuck, in the flooded timber.

    Re: Flipping

I don't flip a lot but when I do, I use a 3/0 or 4/0 straight shank hook with a snell knot, using a Big Senko or Big Lizard, tungsten weight pegged. Weight is depending on how deep I am flipping and how thick the cover is. With using a straight shank hook and snell knot, you can pull the Senko or Lizard all the way thru the eye of the hook up onto the line then bury the hook point into the bait and skin hook. The Senko or Lizard is touching the hook eye but not back thru the hook eye. This will keep the bait from sliding back down off the hook as you pull it thru the cover.

I love the 5/16 weighted Jigs for flipping and pitchin. It just feels right to me with a 7 ft 3 power GLX.

vetsvet, that 1/2 oz - 2 oz is just a gauge to the stiffness of the rod, you can flip or pitch as little or as much weight that you can handle, I can pitch a sweet beaver with a 3/16 oz sinker and 20 lb line, but if you put a small worm on that setup it t would not pitch very well, so you chose, sometimes the fish like it to go through the bush fast, sometimes not, me i'm not that good flippen a jig I get it hung up alto, so I tend to fish t-rigged plastic hope it helps JMO
