I have never been to KY lake and im thinking of going down this summer with the family. i will not be able to go until the last week of august and i know that probably not the perfect time but thats the next chance i'll be able to use some vacation time from work. so my question is will the fishing be tough at that time of year or will it still be good enough to get out and have some fun and locate some decent fishing even though it will probably be the hottest time of the year ? we would be pretty much fishing for anything that would bite not tatheting any certain species. Thanks for any info

Fish ultralight crank baits on light line on the LBL gravel bars at first light. You will catch plenty...
I have never been odwn there in the summer, but would August still be ledge fishing time?
Ledge fishing will be ALL SUMMER LONG for Greenfish and Brownfish. Most all of the fish will move to deeper water to get away from the hotter shallows chasing the baitfish that will also be in deeper more temperature stable water. They will stay on offshore ledges and other deeper structure until the shallows cool down enough for the baitfish to move shallow to feed up for winter and the Bass will follow. I don't fish for Crappie or Gills so someone else can answer that but I would think the Crappie and better Gills would be in deeper water as well, again in the more stable cooler water temps.
If you're interested in other species besides bass you might contact Jim Doom of "Between the Rivers" guide service for Stripers, hybrids and catfish.Jim has appeared at least three times to my knowledge on KY Afield and is a great person and guide. You might also want to look up the "Big Kahuna",he guides out of Moors and can put you on some great white bass action, provided the corp cooperates or some hot catfish action.I've been down there in August and it can get tough.Like the one guy said fish the LBL side early as possible. You should do well until that sun gets up.Good luck and stay safe.
